It is known that the government can now spy on almost any one at anytime. We can be heard seen and tracked via our mobile phones, there are approximately 2.5 million CCTV cameras in the UK, are we entering a state of 1984 ? Now it has been released that 519,260 spy request were made. 519,260 requests for wire taps, phone records and other things which break our privacy. Now can over half a million of these requests really be justified ? So this means there was about 1,400 request a day. There was only 350,000 in the last year, Isn't an increase of 169,260 a little too high, can that many more requests really be justified ?

Are we entering a 1984 world -- or are we already there ?

The article does not say if all these requests were authorised only that the request was made.

If all the requests were authorised that is a very difference story to just the requests being made, and it does begger belief why local councils need these kind of powers. Again, this is another opportunity for us to challenge our local elected offcials and use the UK FOI act to get information.

I understand the concerns, and agree with them, but let's not forget that another reportwas VERY critical of local authorities who had been found to be abusing powers like this.
