It is working just fine. Obama is a presidential candidate now and like it or not everything he does, such as wear lapel pins or not becomes
politicized. I think that once he was made aware that there were issues surrounding him visiting troops he chose to not allow it to be made a
political spectacle. I am willing to bet had he gone on with the visit he would have taken fire from the right for politicizing wounded troops. Either
way the same people would be in this tread or another trying to make the man look bad. I stand by my original comment, I am so happy that this is all
the right can come up with. Enjoy.

This is my statement from the other thread. It fits there, and I can't rephrase it better...
So which is it?
Is it an overseas tour to strengthen Obama's foreign affairs cred, as his campaign and the media have claimed?
Was it to gain the "on the ground feedback " of troops and leaders, (ours and theirs) to better gain a perspective on this war? (as he also
claimed?)
Or was it a campaign event, as witnessed in Germany, (seriously, the audacity) and now described by you as a defense.
So visiting healthy soldiers is not a campaign event. You know, playing basketball with them helps him as a Senator, but no, it's not for pictures of
him with smiling troops.
It's just the sick ones that he can't visit. That would be exploitation. Albeit one with a military photographer, and no sound bites.
Obama actually thinks he is already the leader of our country, and shows it by his actions.
But as you said BH, By any means necessary...(I've saved that quote from you)
C'mon, you know I'm right... Jason
You already said he was showing class by not going on this trip for Political gain? Wasn't that the whole reason he was with the other troops?
Your Messiah is falling apart...

What is falling apart are the recycled talking points originally made by the right wing hate machine and restated by all the machines followers. Obama
is not my messiah nor is he acting like he thinks he is already president. But why I am I telling you thins, you hate him and that won't change.

Once again you refuse to read the actual news story where the Pentagon said it would be SEEN as campaigning so Obama didn't go. Read the actual news
story, not a blog, to learn what happened.

Tell that to the troops who are better informed and give him standing ovations at speeches he makes in front of military men and women! Oh, but wait,
those are fake troops right? Just not Bush supporting troops eh?
give me a break. Yeah, I'm liberal, but I'm not stupid. I used to be conservative, but even when I was that as a young and naive conservative, I
still wouldn't make such a ridiculous statement. Even then I knew troops tended to differ in political support just about as much as the overall
population does...
Some of you guys think you are being so clever, but guess what? America aint buying it this time!

Apparently your comprehension skills are lacking.
You are incorrect yet again. They said he could go as long as Obama did not bring his staff and reporters. I quoted the article in my previous post
to you and proved you wrong. What more do you want?
Yes, they said it would be campaining IF he went to the hospital with his staff and reporters. All he had to do was leave the reporter and staff
behind and they would have allowed it. Focus, focus..... Good grief!

That's half-way correct. Obama's campaign was also told that Obama himself was more than welcome to visit the bases IF he left his campaign and
media entourage behind. Apparently, that didn't wash with him or his campaign team, so they called it off.
In any event, its a weak argument by Obama's staff. They should have known the rules and regulations surrounding such a visit long before he ever
set foot in Germany. They should never have even scheduled that event; people would've griped, but it would look nowhere near as bad as it does
now. They've got no one to blame but themselves for what's happening with this story. They're the ones that apparently didn't do their
homework.
And BTW, he visited Walter Reed less than a month ago, right in the heart of DC, with minimal fanfare. He could've pulled this off if he'd
really wanted to.

One more thing I find entertaining about this thread is that it (the attack on Obama's lacking love for the US troops) is the current theme of the
McCain campaign. It is not even a NOVEL idea.
The message of the Republican's new attack ad that debuted Saturday both perfects and makes more harsh a theme that his campaign has been developing
for weeks: specifically, that the Illinois Democrat does not care about American troops.
link
Now in this thread Obama is called a troop hater because he decided to NOT visit our wounded troops in Germany because he could not make a
'political' event out of it. Which is half right, he chose to not 'politicize' the troops out of respect.
The senator decided out of respect for these servicemen and women that it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military
facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign."
link
The bottom line is that this thread is just an extension of the McCain campaign's attempt to tear down all the points Obama scored in his over seas
visit. It is an attempt to distract the people from seeing the reception Obama received abroad and from the statements he made by taking one small
aspect of his trip and trying to make it the focus. Because, lets face it, McCain challenged Obama to visit the middle east and it blew up in his
face. This is damage control.
