Experience? Does it matter?

Topic started on 24-7-2008 @ 11:19 PM by Shazam The Unbowed

Barack Obama has spent less time as a US senator, than John Mccain did as a POW. Does experience really matter? Is it something we should look for? Or is it simply irrelevant in a world where experience (in the form of advisors) can be bought for a pittance?

Does the fact that Obama has spent more time campaigning for office in the last ten years than he has serving in ofiice in the last ten years show that he is a "fasttrack" kind og guy, or does it show hes pulled anIicarus and even now the beeswax is beginning to melt?

Does the fact that McCain has spent more time as a sentator than many board memebrs have been alive mean he is more, or less prepared to be President than Barack?

You tell me.

yes and no.

Yes because one should know exactly how to act on certain things the proper way and that comes only from experience as do many other things.

No because one can also look back at history and say "Wow this happened he did that and got #ed" so i shouldnt do that.

There is an excuse for lack of experience. There is none for lack of judgement. Youth has no mistakes of judgement on its belt, age has memories of the greatest failures. It's irrelevant.

Of course experience matters. The idea that it even might not matter is foolish.

Would you want a surgeon to operate on your child if it was his first surgery?

Would you want a lawyer representing you in a capital case if it was his first trial?

Would you even want a plumber to fix your toilet if it was the first time ever trying to fix a toilet?

Would you leave your pet dog at a kennel that's never taken care of a dog before?

Would you invest money with a stockbroker who's never had a client?

Judgement? But how do you quantify someones judgement if they havent had the experience to show thier good judgement? I mean isnt experience neccessary for the voters to get an idea of what kind of judgement a candidate has?
How ca you possibly evaluate the judgement of a candidate whos never been tested?
