Back when Bowie was at his peak, he would change his image to reflect the current state of his music.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust told the story of a maritan (Ziggy Stardust) that comes to earth to rescue humanity from banality
en.wikipedia.org...

Life On Mars was on the Hunky Dory album. This album was the first Bowie album that had the all band members that would later be known as Ziggy Stardust's Spiders From Mars

Bowie has done a few other alien themed things in his career

Space Oddity - 1969 single about an astronaut named Major Tom. The song starts with the launch and ends up with Major Tom lost in space.
I've heard music historians claim that Major Tom wasn't really blasting into space but, rather, he was taking drugs (possibly heroin) and the whole song is a metaphor for drug use/abuse. While this might not be true, in a later song Ashes to Ashes, Bowie sings "we know major tom's a junkie. Major Tom makes one more appearance, in the song Hallo Spaceboy.

Loving the Alien, from the Album Tonight was actually a song about his dislike of organized religion and his plea for greater unity amongst the faiths of the world.

in 1976 Bowie starred in The Man Who Fell To Earth
This was a movie about an alien who comes to Earth to get water for his planet. It's on cable from time to time.

In 1983 he played a vampire (not out of this earth but worth mentioning for it's oddball theme) in The Hunger.

Hi
Did read some of the in/outputs here with lot of interest... Thanks
And yes ! I am another Robbie Williams fan who just jumped down from some where over the rainbow to say that i am ALSO a music lover. Big time, so thought about songs i already know and did find others, about the topic UFO's and little green men, also known as "aliens". It's very clear that many great artists had their thoughts about the topic. Well this is the list :
Eclipse Pink Floyd
Astronomy domine Pink Floyd
Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
Inca Roads Frank Zappa
Cozmic Frank Zappa
Have You Seen The Saucers ? Jefferson Airplane
Love Walks In Van Halen
Invisible Sun The Police
Walking On the Moon The Police
Rocket Man Elton John
I've Seen The Saucers Elton John
Eye In The Sky Alan Parson's Project
Cosmic Charlie Grateful Dead

Up From The Skies Jimi Hendrix
Ticket to The Moon E.L.O
Eight Miles High The Birds
2000 Light From Home Rolling Stones
Two Little Man In A Flying Saucer Ella Fitzgerald
Fly Me To The Moon Frank Sinatra
Lots from the states, but after all, they did the first moon landing. Or maby someone else did it first
Keep looking maby there is somebody out there...
I will return to the rainbow for now...
have a nice day/night

Space Oddity?? mate I forgot this song... and it's my favorite of David Bowie... Ground Control to Major Tom!!

I never Heard this history about Heroin... But every music people say that is about drugs.. even I've got you under my Skin, from the lovely Cole Porter and Lola, from the Kinks...

(there are some people who say that Morning Glory, from the Oasis is from Drgus too... That's.. T'hat's... that's real lol )

There are a lot of songs about Ufos, hein? I will download some here!! Fly me to the moon? I can not belive that I've never realized that this song is about Space

here another one: blink182 - aliens exist

look at this article:
www.ufoencounters.co.uk...

i kind of wonder, that even former presidents talked about ufo-sightings. should they not know about ufos anyway because they have access to all the NASA-stuff? Or is it just tactic to keep up the impression that they also have no clue?

Thanks ... really interesting article. Most of these people are american or living in the states: is there more ufo's to observe in North America (incl. Canada )?

Thanks for the list. I didn't think there were so many.
I wonder if these people write such songs because they simply want to express their belief in UFO's or if they think that music can create particular links-waves which allow to see UFO's easilier!? (I think for example of Rob's experience when he and his band played a song about ufo's ("arizona", if I remember well)). Does someone know others examples of ufo's or stange light's observations during certain songs?

Thanks Great article. Read it with interest. By the way about the drugs. It often was told that Led Zeppelin's Stairway to heaven was about drugs as in the "old days" there were limits about lyrics in songs. They had to "cover" their lyrics about drugs and sex. UPS back to basic, the start of this thread. Guess explains why presidents and other insiders maby would not tell it like it is : As the press would use it for profit. If some people dont know how to handle that Robbie Williams talks about his experiences with U.F.O's without making a soup out of a glass of water, asking about his sanity, ref. to his early drug abbuse ect. sure shows that people are not ready to know. If there realy are "somebody out there", i am sure they will come and drink a nice cup of tea with us, when they think we are ready. Untill now they are maby showing them self to some "chosen" people who are willing to talk about about it, so they can test how people will deal with it. So far we did not pass the test i think. Just a guess

absolutely! i wouldnt even think about celebritys in context with ufology, because i actually do not care WHO saw something and especially not if it was a celebrity or not. but to find out how many celebritys spoke about sightings and so many even made songs about it, can give a clue, how many people in gerneral must have made such experiences! and because celebritys are famous and known by so many ppl their experiences spread and can give information about things you maybe would have never heard.
