He changed his goddamned mind. Humans are allowed to do that, regardless of what you're being told. And honestly. Liberal media? Do you have any idea how skewed the American political spectrum is in this country? Your idea of a liberal would be considered a moderate with minimal conservative leanings in any other nation.

Why can Obama change his mind, or become "enlightened", yet McCain is called a "flip-flopper"?

I was not impressed with Obama being in Berlin. I saw it as a ploy. And we all need to remember that when something or someone seems too good to be true, they probably are not what they appear to be.

I heartily agree! How can people be so blind?

Because his party used that line on at least the last three democrats to apply for the job--and probably on others before Clinton, but I was a bit busy not existing during the Carter administration. It's about time people caught on to the old line and turned it against them--heaven knows the right is at least as full of contradiction and hypocrisy as the left.

"Too good to be true," in my opinion, would involve restructuring the educational system, returning to the gold standard, imposing economic sanctions on China, and marching the Commander in Chimp and his handlers off to the Hague to stand trial for their crimes. Obama's good, yes, but he's still just a pretty face with a few interesting ideas--nothing world-shattering. Not yet...

I've read just a little bit of this thread because I could see that the long standing conflict between Democrats and Republicans in the States was controlling the interaction. I have to admit to being Canadian, but maybe that gives me some insight into how non-Americans view Obama.

I'm far from sure that Obama is not a puppet of powerful people that weren't elected, but I don't see any other choice than to give him a chance.

If America elects a Republican president after what happened over the last 8 years, then the world will know that the U.S. has totally lost sight of what it represents, which is a shining beacon of compassion and freedom.

The two never-ending wars and the collapsing economy should loudly say you Republicans have to take a turn in the opposition.

I hope Obama is the real deal, but even if he isn't, America has to punish the incumbent government as a way to attempt to exert some sense of democratic control.

Thank you. It's good to see a free-thinking individual who hasn't lost his grip on reality. Not that one more really matters--in the end, it doesn't matter if the next president is Mickey Mouse, he'll still be In On It. After all, how could he have gotten elected if he wasn't favored by the invisible hand?

What I don't understand is, why would the American public, want to elect a man we hardly know anything about? Why would people want to elect a man that has only been in politics a few years? Why was he able to go to Harvard with hardly any money growing up?

This man is not who he says he id. Call me racist, I do not care. This has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with the world and whats about to happen.

"Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh"

Like this good poster above states... I'll ask again... WHO IS HE!!!!!!!!!

I'm flabbergasted, seeing how the world is 'accepting' him as a leader!

This German speech... means nothing but a cheap trick! Just by looking at him, leaves me with a bad feeling in my stomach. It's ten times worse than the feeling you get before you're about to take an exam you know you're going to fail.

Even articles in such countries as Denmark, Sweden, Hungary and a few other places I've read, are all cheering for this man. They comment on his heroic speech, saying how inspirational and important it was. Heroic? Inspirational? I've seen more trust in a motivational speaker than Obama!

I'm sorry, and I mean no disrespect, but his speech in Germany is meaningless for both the US and especially the rest of the world. He's over there selling his "better US, let's be friends again", while back in the US he's "It's the US and then, them.."

It angers me how desperate people have become, wanting, needing someone like his 'character' (I'm just going to say character from now on because he's as fake as the next politician). Have we all forgotten that ONE man... ONE president cannot, will not and will NEVER be able to rule the US government all on his own?

Obama is as much a puppet as Bush is. This is just a more advanced puppet and his story is different. It's like G.I. Joe in the US was Action Force in Europe. Same thing... different packaging.

I'm tired of hearing and seeing him as the second coming, but most of all I am tired of seeing people react to him like he's some kind of celebrity, idol and almost religious person.

People wake the FRAK up!!!! Now is not the time to spread your legs and welcoming this person into your lives! The past 8 years won't be forgotten cause a new face is in office. He's as bad as the rest, he's just spinning the words differently.

He came out of the blue...

He's not Kal El, Superman... keep an eye out! PAY ATTENTION!

They are never as good as they claim to be!

I WANT TO BE WRONG IN THIS, but look at the world you're living in!

He told Berlin of how trade should benefit 'all', how no one country should be the wealthier, we should 'share the wealth'. Is that not called Socialism? what the hell is he doing promoting such in Germany????????

It makes a lot of sense for him to appeal to the Europeans for approval. The Socialists here in the U.S. cannot think for themselves, and continually turn to Europe for approval, like a child does to a parent.

I agree with you. But never does Obama encourage "giving up" any rights for a "world government". That is a complete and drastic twist of his message. In fact, he speaks very highly of the responsibility of governing ones self and family and community. He talks about it all the time.

His mother was an anthropologist and that is how Obama sees the world, he observes, analyzes and wants to go in and fix everything for us...that is not American.

That's just funny.

You will never here Obama speak in favor of the US Constitution or personal Liberty

Speech 1

Tonight, we gather to affirm the greatness of our nation - not because of the height of our skyscrapers, or the power of our military, or the size of our economy. Our pride is based on a very simple premise, summed up in a declaration made over two hundred years ago: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. That they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. That among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

That is the true genius of America

Speech 2

"We the people, in order to form a more perfect union."

Two hundred and twenty one years ago, in a hall that still stands across the street, a group of men gathered and, with these simple words, launched America's improbable experiment in democracy. Farmers and scholars; statesmen and patriots who had traveled across an ocean to escape tyranny and persecution finally made real their declaration of independence at a Philadelphia convention that lasted through the spring of 1787.

The document they produced was eventually signed but ultimately unfinished. It was stained by this nation's original sin of slavery, a question that divided the colonies and brought the convention to a stalemate until the founders chose to allow the slave trade to continue for at least twenty more years, and to leave any final resolution to future generations.

Of course, the answer to the slavery question was already embedded within our Constitution - a Constitution that had at is very core the ideal of equal citizenship under the law; a Constitution that promised its people liberty, and justice, and a union that could be and should be perfected over time.

Speech 3

We are going to lead by example, by maintaining the highest standards of civil liberties and human rights, which is why I will close Guantanamo and restore habeas corpus and say no to torture.

Because if you are ready for change, then you can elect a president who has taught the Constitution, and believes in the Constitution, and will obey the Constitution of the United States of America.

I could go on, but I won't. What you're saying just isn't true.

Yeah, isn't it a bit strange how all these people see Obama as the "Anointed one" and all that? It's really odd. You know what's really weird? It's only the people who hate him that seem to see him that way. I have never been able to understand it.

It's funny and all, but I'm not sure I get why people compare Obama to Jesus. I would think that to be sacrilegious or something... Oh, well.

I have NEVER heard an Obama supporter refer to him as a savior or Messiah or any of that. It's only his critics who say those things... In fact, his voters are far more level-headed about their expectations of him.

It's baffling, really.

I particularly found this quote interesting...

Even the beauteous Princess Carla of the tribe of the Bruni was struck by awe and she was great in love with the Child, but he was tempted not.

Thank you for this level headed response. I too think that it is time to for a Democratic president. The sad thing is is all of the cleanup that needs to be done. Democrats are for surely not perfect, but after all that the Bush admin. has done, come on it has got to be better.

"U.S. has totally lost sight of what it represents, which is a shining beacon of compassion and freedom"

What we do is take advantage of this and don't think that it is something that constantly needs to be nurtured and improved. Obama wants our citizens to take off the blinders and see the big picture. I am proud to be American... but it is really hard for me to say whhy right now. Surely it is not because we are in Iraq right now. It is because of what you said; I would like to think that we are still practicing compassion and freedom, it however has become blurred lately. Obama is someone that shines light on these deals and vows to make them clear again.

light and love,
-anyone
