Fresh nuclear incident in France

news.bbc.co.uk

About 100 staff at a nuclear plant in southern France have been exposed to a low dose of radiation, power firm Electricite de France (EDF) says.

They were "slightly contaminated" by radioactive particles that escaped from a pipe at a reactor complex in Tricastin, an EDF spokeswoman said.

The story is making this sound like a small event, but I do think any nuclear event is important. The hundred people exposed will hopefully not suffer any ill effects. It being the forth incident at a nuclear site in recent weeks does make me wonder. Should incidents like this be that common?

Brings a whole new meaning to "French Fried!"

Infrastructure costs money. France doesn't have much. The citizens are currently taxed beyond limits. Correct me if I'm wrong but the taxation on gasoline alone is 70%.

I think most of the revenue stream went to providing 75% of the countries electricity via nuclear plants. They're still paying for much of that original construction.

I've always been worried about France. While I give them great credit for providing this level of alternative energy, I am nervous they do not provide the proper maintenance and upkeep for their plants.

Mmmm you'd expect this to happen in some remote region of Russia, not France, nevertheless goes to show you, you can never be too sure about people for that matter.

Looks like everyone is feeling the rising costs of living...

I don't know how bad the French people have it, but I do fear you are right. Again I do hope no one was hurt in this or any of the incidents.
