This thread is about the so called Silva Mind Control phenomenon that has been , since the 1970's, one of the most well known methods of developing of psychic abilities and skills ever published.

Jose Silva, an autodidact Texan Scientist, started his personal investigation of the properties of the subconscious mind in 1940’s when he was an electronic technician working for the communications corps of the American army. It looks that experience drove him laterly to the monitoring of the brain waves in biomedical equipment of military hospitals. It is also known that he worked on that epoch with the Army psychiatrist Paul Silva and that probably that friendship boosted his interest in the mind research.



Born in Laredo in 1914, in the border with Mexico, Jose Silva became after many years of study and research, one of the most important American Scientists about the way in which psychicsm can be promoted through education of the people. His claim was that he could find the method of mental exercises that can allow to any human being to become psychic able to imitate the wonders of famous figures of the paranormal world like Ingo Swann or Uri Geller.

Some of the experiences that many graduates of Silva Mind have lived and practiced in their courses and workshops are: remote viewing, diagnostics and cure of illnesses at distance, auto-programming of goals and objectives, anesthesia without drugs, improving of self-confidence based primarily in the knowledge acquired of the inner kingdoms of the mind.

Mr. Silva founded a genuine dynasty of Parapsychological researchers among his descendents and relatives.

The Silva Method is a self help program designed by José Silva, A program claiming to be able to raise people's IQs and to give them paranormal abilities by teaching them to think with their right brain hemisphere.

More than 6 million of students of this method in 71 countries all around the world is a so impressive result for a man that grew up in of the most undeveloped corners of America and being a poor boy. He never has hidden that he worked being child to support economically his younger siblings in absence of their parents.

Is Jose Silva the beginning of a New era of understanding of the Mind and the enormous possibilities of the subconscious skills, or in the language that he himself created, of the Right Brain?

How original was the work of Jose Silva?
What were his sources and original merits?
What is the difference between The Silva Psico-orientology and Hypnosis?
Between Silva method and the European Sophrology school?
Between Silva method and the remote viewing research of Hal Puthoff at Stanford Institute?
Between Silva method and the distant viewing protocol of Stephan A. Schwartz?
Can the scientific meditation bring the necessary solution of the problems of our so stressed humanity?
What are its more important properties and characteristics?

I havent seen anything on Jose ever mentioned since forever!
I did the course in early 80's , it helped me survive a Bike crash that left me severely broken in '86.

Since then, I have not heard or seen anything.

I think it helped me open my mind. Particularly when I could "see" someone who was unknown to me, and describe their symptoms and personality quite accurately. It felt to me like a kind of "Guess"...

I went from skeptic to semi-believer on that weekend. felt very energised.

I am very grateful to Jose Silva and his "Mind Methods". His program was the first that enabled me to really see within, but I do not think that he alone was the pioneer in psi research and practice. There are many men and women who devoted their lives to the promotion of psi talents in all of us.

Thanks to all of your so interesting posts that contribute a lot to enrich this discussion of Jose Silva and his legacy.

I am agreed with the opinion that Jose Silva was not the only one that worked seriously and so hard in the beginning of this area, but he was one of the few that could achieve a so impressive advance working practically independent all the time.

Moreover, Jose started so soon to focus his interest in the practical aspects, looking for possible applications of this science and particulary in the area of health improving, enhancing of the memory, fast learning and in his last years also in business management.

In that sense we could say that before Jose Silva of course there was Parapsychology in many points of the world, but after him we must talk about Parapsychotechnology, a new stage in the human cultural evolution.

I think, in my personal opinion as a Scientist, Engineer and a Psychic, that Silva had the advantage over other researchers that he was a Technician so his methods were more technological and less scientific than the ones applied by others, that gave him a so practical approach since the begining.




The name of Jose Silva will be remembered in the future together with some other few like:

The first scientist who came to Laredo, Texas, to investigate the research that Silva was doing was Dr. J.W. Hahn, director of the Mind Science Foundation in San Antonio, Texas. Through Dr. Hahn, many more scientists became interested in the pioneering research into the mind and human potential. Mind Science Foundation was founded by oil millionaire Tom Slick Sr. It was Mr. Slick who asked Dr. Hahn to check out Silva’s work. He took back a very favorable report.

After Dr. Hahn’s visit to Laredo, he called Dr. N.E. West, the head of the Department of Psychology at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, and arranged for him to visit Laredo and inspect Silva’s findings. Dr. West was impressed. Even though he had visited the laboratories of Dr. J.B. Rhine at Duke University on two occasions, he said that he had never seen so much valid scientific work done on ESP.

The fundamental of this method of mental self control is the discovering of the alpha level, and how to maintain the mind thinking at that level every time that is required for the solution of personal problems.

The Alpha level of thinking is certain frequency of the brain waves in which the mind can perform all its logic and intellectual processes faster and with more clarity since it provides a so deep level of concentration plus inner communication with the so called collective unconscious described first time in the west by the Switzer Psyquiatrist Carl Jung.

At the alpha level a person, according with the research of Silva, one can think using an enhanced power in his own mental faculties since the mind is using not only his rational left side brain hemisphere but also the intuitive right side one that is responsible of the subject communication and the creative intelectual processes.

According with Jose Silva the ability to think at the Alpha level is the key of the geniality of all the great thinkers of the History of Science, Art and Civilization in general. Silva proved since the 1960's that any common person with the correct training, provided in his method, can achieve outstanding goals in learning or doing intellectual work on almost any academic discipline in which it is applied.

Hi there,
Very interesting entry, I'm reading the book "You the Healer" now. It's quite interesting, but a few excersises I find quite difficult to do still; like numbing my hand by imagining it in a bucket of ice water. And when do you know, that you have reached alpha? I count from 50 to 1, but I often find myself counting backwards over and over because I don't seem to have reached alpha. I've been diagnosed with an serious ilness, I really want to get healed, I'm glad Ive discovered the Silva Method, it gives me hope. I'm trying to heal myself on my own with daily meditations and I must say I feel quite good, but maybe it would be good if someone like you, an experienced Silva Graduate, could help me with it, I really want to get healed, I live in The Netherlands and I am planning to take a seminar here. Hope to hear from you.
