am i the only one who upon graduating thought we were considered a pure democracy, the civil war was fought to free the slaves, and that taxes were legal and in accordance w/ the principles upon which this country was founded on?

Yes, you were.

yeah, i didn't think so and i even went to a private school.

No offense, but it shows. Private school is just a nice word for "your parents paid extra money so you didn't have to work as hard and you can be taught what we want you to be taught."

It's one step above home-schooling. And that's not a good thing.

we were being fed socialism by the spoonful and the proof that they were successful w/ their indoctrination of lies is in this thread.

And you've been so indoctrinated with capitalism that you've forgotten your humanity.

What sorry people we are, Americans. We have taken the concept of laissez-faire economics and bastardized ourselves into a laissez-faire society.

Hands off, neighbor.

Slackerwire and a few others, you really need to get off this reliance on the constitution as the corner stone of your society.

It's an old document with very little relevance to modern society. There are some general motifs that I think we can all agree with but seriously, basing your political opinions on how closely someone adheres to it ? you might as well base them on the bible or the Koran or some other equally outdated work.

I love historical documents as much as the next man but seriously, basing modern political discussion on something that was written at a very different time to ours, for a very different society with very different views on everything from slavery to religion... It's a bit blinkered isn't it ?

Oh, yes, things are so much different now. We certainly don’t have tyrannies or oppressive taxes anymore! Certainly, nobody is aware of anyone being enslaved by their government! There is no sign of a dictator imposing his whims upon a hapless population and subjecting them to deprivation! There is no need to fear these things: it’s like being afraid of dragons or werewolves. We certainly don’t need an old “outdated” work with concepts of Liberty, Justice and other passé ideals to abide by anymore. What a laff! Those concepts are soooo two-hundred years ago!

Thanks for clearing this up for people like Slacker. People who clearly are not “with it”, and need to update their ideas about what a society should be. Clearly, we need someone in a government office to make all our decisions for us. Clearly, we should not be responsible for our own selves anymore; all of society should take care of us – just like a big friendly hive. C’mon Slacker, start thinking like everyone else; stop thinking of “you” as an individual and start thinking like the group. In fact, stop thinking at all…just relax and let decisions be made for you…

The difference between McCain and Obama is best summed up this way:

McCain= Getting kicked in the nuts 5 days a week.

Obama= Getting kicked in the nuts 7 days a week.

Neither choice is palatable, therefore neither should be accepted.

The constitution is about Personal Liberty being protected, Obama will finish the job Bush worked on so tenaciously, eroding our freedom.

Just today Obama gave a speech in a foreign county, a past enemy of the US, saying how we need to erase all our borders. This is in complete opposition of the ideas on which this great country was founded.

We were founded to protect our individual liberty, for our right to be governed locally, for our right to defend ourselves and our right to pursue our own lives as we see fit. We were never meant to be a wellfare state. If wellfare was left up to individuals instead of the government, so many more people would truly be helped. It is government regulation that ruined all the church sponsored charity hospitals in the US.

Obama is not running for Presiedent of the United States, he is running for leader of the One World Government.

Lupe,

Where were you educated? The constitution is the protection of YOUR liberty in these United States. It will never be outdated. It is the Law. I am very upset by your complete lack of understanding of the issue. I truly did not understand when you said you respect it a s a historical document but you dismiss it as a living breathing law.

Without it you need to go the school they tell you to go to, you need to do the jobs"they" tell you to do. You can only buy the goods "they " determine are good for you. You can be taxed by them without representation, They can collect your DNA, they can take your children away from you, they can call you a terrorist without proof, you can go to jail without cause, they can search your home without warrant, they can take your home away from you for military use, they can take away your firearms, they can prevent you form practicing your religion, they can take away your life, they can MICROCHIP you!!! It is not just an old peice of paper.

I implore you to reread the history of the United States

Youre kidding right? Since it has no relevance, lets begin by taking away all of your rights and throwing your uneducated ass in prison for a few years without filing any charges.

Sound good?

After that, how about we torture you since you find the 8th Amendment to be irrelevant?
