Now this is just nuts:

"LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- If Nicolas Cage lights a cigarette in a movie, Hollywood's ratings board should respond as if he used a profanity, according to authors of a new study that criticizes glamorous images of smoking in movies rated for children under 17.

Nearly 80 percent of movies rated PG-13 feature some form of tobacco use, while 50 percent of G and PG rated films depict smoking, said Stanton Glantz, co-author of the study, which examined 775 U.S. movies over the past five years.

"No one is saying there should never be any smoking in the movies," Glantz, a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, said Tuesday at a press conference at Hollywood High School. "What we're simply asking for is that smoking be treated by Hollywood as seriously as it treats offensive language.""

That is the stupidest thing I've heard since yesterday. Just when you think you've heard the stupidest thing ever something comes along the next day to defeat it. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

So that's why the Cowboy bebop movie got an R rateing....Because given the language it would have just been PG-13.....even with the guns and blood....

But anyway.....that's stupid.....This is a never ending war aganst the cigarette indristy....and most likely half the R rated movies out there would only be pg-13 if they didn't have anyone smokeing in them.

It is like killing, they pin the blame on the entertanement indristry, even though they [the people] deside to do it by themselfs. All the parents have to do is tell there kids don't do it and they wont. that simple. But they have to do this.

Why do they have to do this?

and besides, R has become the new NC-17, have you noticed the drop in R rated movies? I just think that is stupid too....

At the rate things are going, it won't be too much longer before movies like Casino are given a new special rating similar to "X" or something , they won't even be allowed to show them in theatres, one will have to wear a disguise and go to a "special" store to buy them.

Going by those guidelines, all cheech and chong movies must be eradicated, since not only did they smoke, but it was weed about 110% of time. Or what about documentaries depicing a native american smoking a peace pipe? Yet another waste of money, I just hope it wasnt tax dollars at work
