It's true that the Obama campaign jet does not have the American flag on it but neither does the McCain jet. Obama used to charter a plane from North American Airlines whose logo included a large American flag. Now that he's the presumptive Democratic nominee, he has a jet with his campaign's logo on it in the same way McCain has a jet with his campaign's logo. If you don't like Obama and want to criticize him that's fine but at least get your facts straight.

What a piece of work some of you are. Obama's plane had the North American paint scheme replaced. The flag that was on the tail is a registered trade mark for North American Airlines, it had to be removed. The Obama O flag has part of the American flag waving and a rising sun, "A new dawn". By the way, don't see any flags on McCain's plane.

The replacement of North American's commercial markings included the removal of two stylized U.S. flag images which are used in the airline's logo (a registered trademark of that company). The North American flag/logo on the forward portion of the fuselage was removed and the one on the tail was replaced with the Obama "O" campaign logo, while the traditional depiction of the U.S. flag adjacent to the plane's registration number was retained:
(My emphasis)

So, according to snopes he removed a couple of trademarked logos containing elements from the US flag and replaced them with his own logo containing elements from the US flag.

The regular flag by the registration mark was retained.

What is the issue here?

There isn't an issue. It is just more reaching on the part of the anti-Obama fanatics.

This is a forum to discuss the upcoming Presidential Election, here in the USA.

Sad that the opposition to a Democratic Presidential Nominee resorts to such pathetic arguments as whether or not there is a Flag emblem on a candidate's jet.

I would think that the real issues would take precedence.

This Nation has done quite well under Democratic Administrations, for the most part. Just my opinion, of course.

As to readiness to lead?? Neither candidate is tested, yet, in that category. The current imbecile was not ready either, was he? So, I see that as a non-issue to argue either way.

What I DO see is the McCain camp already going negative. The Obama camp doesn't react, and that shows restraint and intelligence.

ps....from the raft of Democratic potentials, Obama certainly wasn't my first choice. Hillary, no as well....but here we are. Now what?

I'm waiting for the Veep announcements. As I've said, I will hold my nose and vote Obama, just to keep McCain out...and hope for the best.

However, if McCain chooses a really good Veep, then I may roll the dice, and expect a death in office, and a transition ....just sayin'......

THANK YOU GEKKO!

On a side note.....I didn't know the flag of our country was a allowed to be trademarked even when "stylized".....

First of all, I want to say, I'm an undecided voter. All the people I liked a lot never made it past the primaries.... So... Right now the deciding factor will be the running partner that is chosen by the candidates....

Still, Obama has been publicly attacked for not wearing a flag pin (which i do find silly, but what can you do.) So he turns around and removes the flag from the tail section of his airplane? Sure, that shows how patriotic you are......

Obama is a young senator, who has never served in the military, who doesn't seem to wear anything flagish, and doesn't have a flag (besides the REQUIRED flag of orgin on the registration) on his jet, and he wants to be president?

And people are going to be ok with this?

Seriously, I was walking through a craft store with my kids before the 4th of July and was going to buy them both a plastic flag. While I was looking at some of the yarn supplies, my 6 year old son started dragging the flag (cause lets face it, he's young and at this point in his life it's a toy) and 4 people nearly had a heart attack in telling me he was dragging it. It's these people who CARE about if candidates have flags, and lets face it, there are more out there than you realize.

Personally, if Obama wants to be taken seriously, he will have to start showing something more patriotic than "We can make a difference."

There's my two cents....

I have read all of this thread... and besides bickering on whose candidate is better, one plane vs another, getting back to issues that never get gotten to, and everything else, I stand by my thread.

McCain has the argument that he fought was was imprisoned for his country, which should show enough of his patriotism to not need a flag pin. This usually soothes the savage flag obsessed beasts. What's Obama's claim?

Like I said, I've not decided yet, but the fact is this Obamatrons.... There are a significant amount of people out there, who care that Obama hasn't shown anything patriotic.

I Think It's A DISGRACE,People shoudn't vote for someone that will not fly the AMERICAN FLAG The Honor Of Our Country,That isn't the American Way,What is Obama the AntiChrist or What.Because it sounds just like what Revalations says,About the man from the East that will come and swoo people into liking him and then will Destroy all. I Don't Like Him and People Should Not VOTE FOR HIM

I don't know.....not sure if wearing or 'not' wearing a flag lapel pin means a whole heck-uv-alot. It's like, there is a 'bandwagon' mentality going on...

"Baby on Board" yellow signs, in your car. The 'peace' symbol...pink ribbons, yellow ribbons, red ribbons....yellow 'Armstrong' rubber wrist bracelets....

I remember, in the 1970s when I was in High School....the 'POW' and 'MIA' metal wristbands....they'd usually turn green after a few months....

I'd prefer to see someone with real values, not false 'patriotism' just because everyone else is doing it.

Not saying anything about McCain, in this election cycle, is false. Just saying this is a red herring, and not a worthy complaint about a candidate's stance on issues. Just as I pointed out, another thread, that bringing up personal daliances, and personal family matters, are inappropriate too.

Maybe they felt that the red white and blue colors were enough. Flag or no flag, a vote for McCain is a vote for a war with Iran. Maybe we should be focusing on that instead of looking at airplane art.

That's what I say. It does have the colors and the stripes that look like the American Flag's stripes, so maybe he thought it was enough. I guess some people will never be happy and will always find a reason to criticize. Look at the economy, look at the war, look at important issues to talk about, not the missing flag on his aircraft.

I believe I've seen quite a few 'stylized' versions of the American Flag, in my years.

I think, didn't look it up yet, but there is a code of conduct, concerning a real flag.

A representation of the colors, in a 'stylized' version....is acceptable, as long as no dis-respect is intended.

I personally think a woman's short-shorts displaying the red, white and blue is very disrespectful. I mean, it's plastered across a woman's buttocks! BUT, the person who is wearing same short-shorts thinks she's being patriotic...go figure!

AND, has been pointed out already, since this is a discussion about Obama's airplane....it bears repeating that the original chartered jet had a differernt paint scheme because it was the company logo.

After being re-painted with Obama's name plastered all of it, the company logo went away.....but if this airplane is EVER operated outside of the US.....then there must be a flag near the registration number. Look for that, both sides, near the tail, on the fuselage.

I bet if you guys saw a gorgeous woman with a two piece stars and stripes bikini on you wouldn't complain. Especially if she allowed you to raise the flag.

I honor my flag and respect the way others choose to honor theirs even if I don't agree. Removing the flag from the plane is no big deal.

Anyways, where did that gorgeous babe in the two piece stars and stripes go to...........

jam, HOW exactly are you 'raising' that flag??

Sorry, couldn't resist.....this is a G-rated site.

NOW....there IS a flag on the jet, it was re-painted, and it's not the 'waving' flag on the vertical fin, anymore.

Actually, there are TWO flags, one on each side.....by comparison, in size as you'd look at a person's suit....about the same relative size.

SO....a piece of metal and paint, about an inch wide (likely made in China) compared to a flag painted on the aft fuselage, both sides.....and maybe 12 or 18 inches long????

Well, you decide.
