Just understanding the mind

I am a new comer here on ATS, but however I have read numerous of threads before I registered. However reading other threads and trying to understand the complexities of our intelligence. My questions is can we understand languages or find other languages familiar which we have never taught ourselves to understand? What is your opinion?

Yes, we can find them familiar, a lot of them are derrived from Latin, so they carry over similarities, English is influenced by French also, and there are many many more examples, but no we cannot understand them to great extents unless we've learnt them.
