Friends list question

If I added someone to my friends list they are then able to add me to theirs. But, when someone has added me to their friends list (before I have added them to my friends list) I have noticed I can no longer add them to my friends list after that. But, that makes no sense. Why is that?

yes you can just click friends tabb in their profile or at the bottom of the their post in topics.
