Berkeley Sea Scout leader pleads no contest of child molestation

A Berkeley Sea Scout leader was found guilty of two counts of child molestation and will serve six years in prison under a plea deal reached Monday with the Alameda County district attorney's office.

Eugene Evans, who was originally charged with 18 felony counts, including child molestation and showing pornographic materials to young boys, pleaded no contest to two charges Monday that will allow the victims to avoid an emotional hearing.

Evans, who once battled the Boy Scouts of America all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court for its policy of excluding gays and atheists, declined to comment after he agreed to the plea deal in front of Alameda County Superior Court Judge Sandra Bean.

This is absolutely mind boggling. This is one of the guys in the Scouts that argued allowing homosexuals into the scouts would put the kids in jeopardy of being molested... so he turns around and molests them himself? The irony here would be incredible if the story wasn't so disturbing and heartbreaking. They shouldn't have offered a plea deal to this POS, they should have taken him out behind the courthouse and hung him from the nearest tree.

I couldn't agree with you more. Why is it that child molesters & rapists, and sometimes even murderers get only a few years in prison? I read somewhere the other day that a man was serving 173 years for bank robberies. Yes I know that it is a federal offense and all, but from what I read, no one was ever physically harmed, he just stole a lot of money (I really wish I could remember the site I read that on so I could post it here!)

Also, I think this is the guy that sued the Boy Scouts b/c they would not let gays & atheists in. Whoever he is he needs to be wiped off the face of the earth, along with any other pediphile.
