Kucinich Wins Hearing on Bush, Impeachment Off the Table

Rep. Dennis Kucinich's single impeachment article will get a committee hearing — but not on removing President Bush from office.

The House on Tuesday voted 238-180 to send his article of impeachment — for Bush's reasoning for taking the country to war in Iraq — to the Judiciary Committee, which buried Kucinich's previous effort.

This time, the panel will open hearings. But House Democratic leaders emphatically said the proceedings will not be about Bush's impeachment, a first step in the Constitution's process of a removing a president from office.

Instead, the panel will conduct an election-year review — possibly televised — of anything Democrats consider to be Bush's abuse of power. Kucinich, D-Ohio, is likely to testify. But so will several scholars and administration critics, Democrats said.

I guess I will call this progress. I was unaware that Pelosi was behind quashing Congressional efforts to impeach Bush. He must have the goods on her. Maybe it isn't such a good idea to impeach a president during wartime. After all, the Homeland might come under attack again.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like the Pelosi I heard when she was trying to help the democrats take over. (Of course, she could have just had her eyes on being the speaker.) I wrote to that B-word the other day to "thank" her for letting most of the country down.

and maybe on that day there will be statues in DC of true patriots who stood up to you like Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul.

There's good reason why Congress, and especially Pelosi and a few others don't want to impeach Bush.

Pelosi has said all along that Congress will not impeach Bush, that it's not an option!

Why would the Speaker of the House of Representatives ever announce that "impeachment is off the table"? By making this statement, the Honorable Representative from the 8th District of San Francisco, California has torn Article II, Section 4 out of our Constitution - set it on fire - and thrown it in a trash can. That is treason, and treason is an impeachable offense. We already have one branch of government trashing the Constitution - we don't need another one. Impeachment is the only Constitutional tool we have to remove "all civil Officers of the United States" from office - not just Presidents and Vice-presidents

But all of Congress is kind of guilty of aiding Bush in his "impeachable" acts or voting in favor of acts that are now deemed illegal/immoral enough to impeach him.

The fact that they did nothing to stop that illegality, and often explicitly approved of it, obviously incentivizes them to block any investigations or judicial proceedings into those illegal programs.

In December of last year, The Washington Post revealed:

Four members of Congress met in secret for a first look at a unique CIA program designed to wring vital information from reticent terrorism suspects in U.S. custody. For more than an hour, the bipartisan group, which included current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was given a virtual tour of the CIA’s overseas detention sites and the harsh techniques interrogators had devised to try to make their prisoners talk.

Among the techniques described, said two officials present, was waterboarding, a practice that years later would be condemned as torture by Democrats and some Republicans on Capitol Hill. But on that day, no objections were raised. Instead, at least two lawmakers in the room asked the CIA to push harder, two U.S. officials said.

Pelosi saw, first hand waterboarding and approved it, heck, she was probably one of the "lawmakers" that asked the CIA to push harder!

They all feel that they may be on the chopping block next if impeachment goes forward. At the very least, they don't want their "dirty laundry" aired in public!

After all, they all want to be re-elected, that's all that matters to them!

Shame someone like Kucinich cannot legally do anything that he morally feels responsible to do. Like calling out criminal activity. I just wish there was some equally powerful entity he could turn to, to use his power in congress as it was meant to be used.

There are not enough people like him and Ron Paul, to even touch those around them who are guilty of encouraging and supporting the war crimes, lies, deception, and everything else this administration is 100% guilty of.

I wish that some other country seriously would come and "liberate" us

Yeah, she's in on it, too. She's complicit, and she is probably getting paid off somehow to keep impeachment proceedings from going forward. It is the closed meetings and backroom deals in DC that really subvert justice for the entire country.

or maybe congress realizes it was ultimately their decission to go to war in iraq and bush didnt make the choice on his own.

if you want to charge him you will have to charge all of them to as accomplices to the crime..

The difference is the White House deceived Congress with false intelligence reports. The Bush Administration knew they didn't have a case to go to war with, so they made one up.

The "Saddam involved in 9/11" insinuation over and over again. It wasn't until after the invasion and occupation, way after, that Bush finally admitted Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. Saddam - al Qaida connection. There was never a connection between Saddam and al Qaida. Nigerian yellow cake Uranium. The issue Valerie Plame was outed over. There was no Nigerian yellow cake Uranium deal with Iraq. Saddam posed an "imminent threat" to the US. Saddam posed an imminent threat to Bush's cronies in the oil business because he was going to start selling oil for euros. I could go on, but that should suffice.

The lies continued after the invasion and occupation, too. "No torture." Torture. "No secret CIA prisons." Secret CIA prisons. "No extraordinary rendition." Extraordinary rendition. It just goes on and on. This administration has put this country on the brink of disaster and destroyed its reputation for justice and decency. All in the name of power and profit. Way to go.

We just removed 550 Million lbs of yellowcake from Iraq. I wonder if some of it came from Nigeria? The media barely reports on stuff like this.

I think Dennis Kucinich may fade considerably from media coverage now, but I have little doubt that history will remember this man and look to the other politicians involved who did nothing and ask why.

If you are any kind of real patriot, you have to respect what politicians like Kucinich (and RP) are trying to do. We all know nothing will come of it due to too many reasons but give them all the credit in the world for actually trying to make a difference while being a member of congress.

I saw the coverage on Fox.

The yellowcake removed from Iraq - which was not the same yellowcake that President George W. Bush claimed, in a now discredited section of his 2003 State of the Union address, that Saddam was trying to purchase in Africa - could be used in an early stage of the nuclear fuel cycle. Only after intensive processing would it become low-enriched uranium, which could fuel reactors producing power. Highly enriched uranium can be used in nuclear bombs.

There's your sign, I mean, your answer. Looked like a publicity stunt to me. I expect to see more of these, in many forms and forums, leading up to the elections. Like McClellan said, the campaign mindset permeates everything.

Kucinich deserves all the respect in the world for standing up for what is right. We need more patriots like him in office. Right now he is marginalized because the rest of them, with the exception of Ron Paul and maybe a few select others, are so corrupt.

To think that Bush must have the "goods" on her shows a typical American misconception. This misconception is that we have choice. Mainstream Republicans and Democrats are basically two factions of the same political party and ideology. To seek true choice you must look for Cositutionalists within either party or Libertarians. The pickings are slim. The real fight for Liberty is the Constitutionalists vs. the Statists.

The illusion the Bilderberg-controlled press weaves has numbed the minds of Americans. Pelosi, Bush 1, Bush 2, Hillary & Bill and uber-liberal McCain have virtually an identical statist, soft-fascist, socialist political agenda.

Conyers treated Kasinich with about no respect.
The Republicans on the committee showed total partisanship.
