I'm not the kind of person who gets excited about celebrity gossip, but all of those unavoidable news reports about supermodel Chrstie Brinkley's
divorce got me thinking. Especially the bit about how her husband spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on Internet pornography. I'll elaborate
below, but my basic thesis is that using pornography by yourself is quite often preferable to actual sex with a partner, especially if the partner is
someone you've already slept with on a regular basis. Before I delve too far into this, I should point out that most of this does not apply to sex
with a good prostitute, although the monetary cost can be prohibitive.
First of all, sex is hardly ever as good as you hope it will be going in. With pornography, there are lower expectations. The end result is pretty
much the same, but our perception is obviously going to be much different and this favors the less highly built-up activity.
Secondly, as this Brinkley story shows (in addition to the countless similar stories of people who lose their attraction to very attractive people
once they've bedded them a couple of times), no matter how much of a knockout your partner may be, you'll eventually grow tired of her charms and
start looking for the next one. It's basic genetics. Human beings - like most animals - are wired to spread their seed to as many targets as possible
in order to guarantee a higher likelihood of passing their genes down. Of course, nowadays most sex is not intended to conceive children, but the
genetic tendancies are still there.
In addition, sex with a partner limits the extent of your pleasures, to varying degrees. With pornography, you can look at anything that happens to
arouse you - from mild fetishes to the completely outrageous. On a related note, if you're worried about trying to please another person at the same
time, it's going to be mediocre for both parties. This is another reason I stated that sex with prostitutes is exempt from my theory. You can do
pretty much anything you can imagine to a prostitute if you have enough money. Just ask Elliot Spitzser.
Another reason porn beats sex is that it takes less work and (in most cases) less money and you can get as much of it as your body can handle - not
somebody else's. There's no hassle of having to chat strangers up at the bar or the reverse problem of having to figure out how to get said person
out of your house when you're done with them, or worrying about getting stalked or screwed over in divorce court once you break a relationship off.
Again, I endorse prostitutes. I believe it was Charlie Sheen who wisely stated that, "You don't pay prostitutes to have sex with you.... You pay
them to leave once they're done!"
And with all that said, who knows your body better than yourself? Do you want some other person down there fooling around with your business equipment
when you've been handling things just fine since your youth?
To wrap things up, I want to make sure you are able to separate "sex" from "relationships". I know the fellas out there are completely with me
here, but a lot of you women are thinking, "This is absurd! If I don't have sex I can't have a relationship, and then I can't get married and have
kids! And I don't need porn to get off anyway!"
Calm down, ladies. Just because you have sex with your boyfriend or husband every once in a while doesn't mean you can't have alone time every day
to make sure it's done right. And I know most of you don't watch porn, but just know this - your boyfriends and husbands still do, and that's not a
bad thing. It's natural.
