Here is the clean clear answer.
It's a bit counter-intuitive so you need to concentrate.

We are still in Iraq to keep the Iraqis from selling their own oil.
We are still in Iraq because if the oil companies let Iraqi oil flow
then the price of oil will drop significantly.
The oil companies had Bush invade Iraq in the first place because
Saddam Hussein threatened to FLOOD the world with Iraqi oil which
would have brought the price down to $30 a barrel.
Iraq has so much oil that it has a huge impact on the price of a barrel.
By having the US occupy Iraq and keep the country in chaos, and unable
to be a player in the oil market -as long as this continues the oil companies continue to make record profits.
Plus the oil companies are being deluded into thinking that they will someday be able to sell Iraqi oil themselves when the price is even higher.

THIS WAS THE PLAN FROM DAY ONE.
Europeans know it but US media is a prostitute to big oil.

I fear the only way to stop this war is for the American people (including soliders) to stand up and end it ourselves. The only way to secure our Republic is to overthrow our government and try to put the pieces back together.

I love Jefferson!

If we are to get anything worked out in Iraq we need to make a few decisions here at home. The only way to get the ball rolling on leaving there is going to be this administrations concession that they want us to leave. We need to sit down and figure this one out, or as we all squabble this is going to continue to go on...

...with no consensus to stop it.
