In Texas, I noticed it two weeks ago. In the western sky, around 10 p.m. CDT. I also thought it was a police helicopter at first, but it's too high for that. An airplane would eventually disappear. Is it a satellite?

I work in a fire lookout tower in the forests of Eastern Oregon have have on occation seen this phenomenon, in fact I have seen as many as three at once. One being North/North East of me, the other being due West and the third seems to be South/South East. Anyone saying these might be stars are wrong, it appears to be a series of lights. My theory is, since working alone for many days/weeks/months alone with much time to think, is that these are geosynchronous orbiting satelites. Of what type or their names, I have no clue, but they all look exactly the same when viewed through my Forest Service issued binocs.

I've been looking at a huge star in the southern sky for about 3 yrs now, it wasn't there before, and it appears to be getting bigger and brighter, and maybe that means closer. It never rises much past 35 degrees. It seems to fit the description of Sirius binary star system, having a spiked appearance and the brightest star in the night sky.

It might be a UFO.
We see them here in Toronto just about every night and theres usually 4-8 of them in the sky at any given time.
They move around sometimes and sometimes have tiny UFO flying around them.

I personally think they are motherships that come kind of like a docking station for the smaller UFO crafts.
I say this because at times I have seen about 10-20 small UFO shooting out of the bright large craft just after it suddenly showed up.

theres info on them at www.abovetopsecret.com...

and I filmed some of them and post here

I have seen the same thing in georgia. I use a tree to pinpoint this "star" and it will move up and down side to side and flicker white, blue, red. Its not a plane or a jet.

i think this link will definitely answer your question if you haven't already found it - cs.astronomy.com...
i was looking for the same answer because i've seen 2 of them myself

so i too was having a smoke outside. it was around 2am and i notice this flashing blue red and white star. at first i thought it was a plane, but it seem to high and it did not move like one. so i googled it and found this thread. looks like there is no definitive answer, so i'll try my best to describe and hopefully get an answer out of it. the "star" is easterly, not westerly as stated in this thread. closet constellation is orion's belt, several degrees below it. and if you were to follow the belt, vertically, it seemed like it was directly below the belt. sometimes i would see it flashing a pinkish color. i also live in southern california if that helps a bit. i went back outside an hour later, it was still there but slightly down and to the right of the original position from where i first spotted it. hope i can get an answer out of this, because i'm really curious to find out.

***UPDATE: by the time I got back inside and posted this only about a couple of minutes pasted, the object has moved up and over in a vertical motion. explain that please/

I just was outside smoking a cigarette , I live in Texas.

I would like to confirm that at 5:00am CST it approximately South East sky.

Watched for about 30 minutes and it was viable over the roof tops over my apartments from my patio and in the time I was outside it was I noticed the anomaly in the sky rise. However this could be do to the earths rotation and etc..

Confirm seeing red, white, blue type lights as you would see on a heli or air plane.. I can also confirm it is not in earths atmosphere, maybe outerspace or deep space 9.

Please reserve your comments about this being some air craft, as it is not.

I almost want to run out and buy a telescope to further the investigation.

You are not alone...

The object you saw does move with other stars as the sun does as well. I live in north carolina and have seen this star out my window for months. At first i thought it was a ufo, but it never moved exept with the other stars as usual. Im convinced this object is either a star or two spinning stars creating this false light.

I saw something similar tonight. So googled and it brought me here. I know what I saw was not a planet because I saw it dip and turn and everything and it got smaller and smaller. I was assuming a plane as it was headed for Lambert in st louis. But it wasn't a commercial jet because it was moving VERY slowly to the point where it was staying just about the same size as I was driving in its direction. Until I turned it didn't get much smaller, so again, it was moving slower than any jet plane i've seen. My next guess was a helicopter. However, the flashing red, blue and white lights were on its body. There were no wings, at least with lights on them because the flashing rotated around the object seemingly in a circular motion. It still could have been a helicopter, which would explain the slow movement and no wing lights, but I've also never seen a copter with that many lights. It was about as light up as a dutch brothel lol, like a flying christmas tree or casino boat.

Also, the flashing of the lights when I first saw it reminded me of a police car that was flying or something (if that helps to illustrate what the flashing looked like). Because the lights were rotating as a cop car's lights do. But again, it was pretty flashy. I mainly googled to see if some helicopters have lots of lights, LOTS, but I haven't found anything like that yet.

If anyone can explain the slow movement, LOTS of (red blue white) lights, and rotating circularly around the body of the object, let me know. I don't think it was a UFO or anything like that, but I would like to know the possibilities. I don't know...could have been a UFO for all I know lol, but I like to rule out all the logical things first. I'm not one of those nuts who jumps out and yells "ALIENS!!!" right away. =P

What ever it is/was, it seems like there are more than one, or it travels across the world, I live in Illinois FYI

Thanks guys.

(hope this made some ppl feel better for seeing what they did, and knowing they're not crazy)

Yeah, I was outside this morning same time as last night... Thing is in the SAME EXACT ORBIT!!!

This is something we may need to research on.. I don't have a clue where to start.. Anyone with a telescope might be able to get a closer look at it and maybe even a picture?

I don't have either one so... It's just my word that this isn't a normal star and it doesn't exactly correlate with the stars and constellation.

can anyone else confirm they see the same thing?

- just watch the big dipper or something and keep track of where it moves in the sky (north, west, east, south ) and then keep an eye on the objects movement. That would be the most logical way to keep track of it.

Below is an image of the SE sky over Austin at 0500 yesterday.

Would it be possible for you to point out on it where in relation to the star Sirius you saw the other light?

You can't miss Sirius. It's the brightest star in the sky and quite brilliant in appearance at this time. It should have quite the flash of colors, possibly including red, blue, and green.

Tonight I saw something flashy again, this time I'm pretty sure it was a planet or a star. This ISN'T what I saw last night most likely because this was a dot, far away and didn't move. What I saw last night was flying moving turning dipping, had a structure (not just a dot in the sky). I was going into Q'doba and saw it near a radio tower and saw a dot flashing red white and blue. Came back out, looked again, and it was gone, or at least I couldn't see it anymore. And FYI, I was in there for all of 4 min. to buy my burrito so, the earth's rotation couldn't have had anything to do with it. I did see something similar which....I'm assuming was it but at the same time it couldn't have been it because it was further away and in a different location over the sky and was stationary again. (anyone who is reading these posts for the first time, it wasn't a plane, just trust me lol) I'm almost 100% positive this was a star or planet...I just can't figure out how it seemed to disappear or move or made itself not visible when I came back out lol. The dot was also fairly bright too so light pollution wouldn't have changed its visibility either, not to mention no other lights had turned on during that time.

I was on the balcony with 2 friends, and we all saw fairly bright changing lights over the nearest mountain 'ridge. There were no stars....it was too foggy, and you could only see the stuff we were really close to.
It was huge and bulbous sort of, had moving/alternating blue/white/red lights
We thought it was some kind of tower or whatever at first, but then I was like, no that wasn't there last night....then it moved downward and got larger in appearance...which was weird, but...whatever..
Anyway, we honestly didn't care and wouldn't have other than my one friend from the area who swears she sees stuff there all the time.
We almost decided to go back in...but when this smaller object 'came out; (visually seemed to anyhow) and started flashing green, dipped down into the nook between two 'peaks' or points in that ridge, we decided to all have another smoke and watch lol...like there was one more visible range that could be seen between the closer two peaks...it was that low, so it was no longer in the sky, it was land BEHIND it, not sky...and all around it...so at this point definitely not a star, or a jet up in the sky... too fekking big anyway, by far...
So anyway, after 10 minutes it came back up, seemed to join the colourful 'object' and then the thing lifted straight up maybe 100ft over the mountain tops, and then slowly moved a bit north, then faded into the fog, impossible for me to say what speed...but we could see it slowly changing position over another 10 minutes before it seemed to disappear any more rapidly.
Anyway, I don't know what it was, but it was unusual. It was night, it was really damned close and really big....really low...I mean we were looking from almost level altitude, partway up another peak..straight across at it...
What in the middle of the night would be up there hovering that is man made, with no sound...btw...
I mean, I don't give a damn if they are or aren't real, but its still interesting to see what ppl have to say, and certainly interesting that you've seen something that may be similar.
Good luck ...

Sitting on the porch all night with my fiancee watching this star or planet flash red white and blue. Its not a jet or police chopper. Its in the south eastern sky an it moves along in alignment with a higher star in the sky which is due south an is significantly dimmer. What am i looking at?
