Al-Qaida forces are suspected of being behind an ambush of Algerian security forces that resulted in 43 deaths ñ including 39 members of the
country's security forces.
The attack took place late Saturday night in the Batna region's Aures mountain range in the southeast part of the country ñ about 260 miles form the
capital city of Algiers. An elite paratrooper unit of the Algerian army was the target.
