I'm reading The Lost Symbol right now and it is already amazing. I'm not even 20 pages in.

Did any of the masons present ever hear through the grapevine confirmation that Stanly Kubrick was a mason?

There is tons of symbolism in his movies that could be interpreted as Masonic, however the ideas and symbols could originate from other sources too...Gnostics, New Age, Jungian, etc.

I would guess he was involved in Masonry at some point in his life though or at least studied it.

I bought it when it first came out which just happen to coincide with the Annual Communication of my Grand Lodge. I finished the book by the end of Grand Lodge and actually gave my copy of the book to the Grand Master so he could read it.

Symbols are arbitrary and ambiguous; no one group, culture, religion, institution, or organization has exclusive rights over symbols. Also, the intent of the symbol's author may differ from the interpretation of the viewer, the latter can vary depending on knowledge and beliefs.
