I'm supporting you on this one. Hate monger has no place at ATS\BTS.
If this keeps going then most of us rational minded people will go elsewhere.

bugs...I wouldn't let it get to you.

I submit that many people post with an intent to get your goat and that they themselves do not support the crap they spew. There is a formula for getting attention and that is to offend greatly.

I honestly suggest not letting some of the more outlandish topics and perspectives not get to you...because I doubt they would react similarily if their GrandMother were around...you know?

Here's one on me...

What's the point of keeping those offending post around? If an OP can't back up his argument is this nothing short of turning this site into another cheap tabloid, full of nothing.

Let's add a new rule under TERMS & CONDITIONS:
If an OP has no valid source to quote from then the thread shall be removed, transfered to another topic, such as "purely speculative", or have the mods ask him/her to explain more as to how they support the concept or idea being presented.

Hey there Bugs,

Memory Shock and Bodrul are both quite correct. You dont let anyone drag you down to there level...especially if you note that the level of others is of the lowest common denominator.

What you note about Tony Snow...I have also noted about people who have previously passed away. Such conduct disgusts me about anyone..left, right, or middle. Such conduct shows great disrespect to the dead and also to the familys of these people.

People who do such conduct...obviously have no self respect..only self promotion.

Such blatent self promotion is become common out here..not just on ATS/BTS/PTS. Dont you roll in the gutters with them. It does not take much effort to roll in the gutters with such people of the lowest common denominator.
Such shallow self promotion is not a sign of excellence..it is a sign of being common....common also meaning Vulgar.

And Vulgar conduct is what you are discribing.

Modesty and Humility in all things.

I salute both Memory Shock and Bodrul for thier posts and opinion here.

Thanks,
Orangetom

The Tony Snow thread was a classic example. It spawned off two other threads in BBQ which were equally classic.

The gravedancer's tactics were supported and encouraged, under the guise of "free speech". Any opposing opinions were squashed and ridiculed.

So what else is new?

Its like this: I don't disrespect the dead for no reason.

If someone dies that I thought was a good person, sometimes I'll post, sometimes I won't. My post will be respectful.

If someone dies that I know nothing about, I won't post.

However, if someone dies that I thought was a bad person, I am going to more than likely post and make a comment that is considered "negative".

I don't form my opinions, unlike some, based on Republican/Democrat, Left/Right, American/Not-American, or any other imagined characteristic. I form my opinions based on the person and what they did in life.

I happen to believe Tony Snow was a bad person in life and did not deserve my respect. If he deserved yours, that is great. Thats your right. But I have the same right. He didn't deserve my respect, and I showed that much in my opinion of him.

Some of you grave dance on others all the time. Terrorists, for example. And why do you do that? Because you genuinely believe they are bad people.

So why do I "grave dance" on Tony Snow? Because I genuinely believe he was a bad person.

Maybe you don't believe he was a bad person. Thats fine. Thats why we are all entitled to our own opinion.

But what you have to realize is that others are not only entitled to their opinion when you happen to agree with it. Others are entitled to their own opinion no matter what that opinion is.

Leave the level of classiness, respect, sensitivity and maturity to me. I will decide what level of each I use in my post. If it is a violation of the rules here at ATS, I will accept the consequences of my actions. But it is not YOUR job to penalize me, and it is not your job to point out what a pathetic life I have for holding a different opinion.

Address my opinion and attempt to figure out why I have that opinion. Don't address me as a person.

That is where you went wrong. That is why your posts were removed. Blaming anyone else for that is a cop out.

I agree with you 100%. I think it is really sad when we are so closed minded in our opinions that we want someone who feels differently than us to die.

We are letting this left wing/right wing stuff divide us. Am I the only one who feels that some left wing policies are good and some right wing policies are good and we need to learn to compromise and combine some of these good ideas that both sides have?

Sadly I get this in the real world too. We have a friend who is extremily conservative and anytime you disagree with him he calls you wrong and calls you an idiot. My mom is extremily liberal and she is the same way. It has gotten to the point where I have kicked both of them out of my house at one time or another.

The fact of the matter is, we need to let bygones be bygones and learn to respect the fact that other people have different opinions than we do.

I happen to think that someone who expresses joy over the death of a man based upon a difference in political opinion is a pathetic, lonely individual. That or they have not had a moral upbringing or have not been taught basic decency by their parental units. Degrading a man that died a horrible death because you disagreed with his politics is the sign of a miserable individual.

Just my opinion, of course.

You can continue to claim that I dislike Tony Snow because of a difference in political opinion all you want, but that does not make it true.

If you would like to make an attempt at learning my reasoning so that you are better informed, then let me know. But if you wish to remain ignorant to the subject of my beliefs and opinions, making embarrassingly false assumptions along the way, then that is all you. Be my guest.

Some idiot? I guess that's me. I have to comment -- that sounds like hateful speech on your part, Bugs. Not sure it should be allowed here.

Seriously, I find the whole ATS / BTS phenomenon to be very polite and cultivated. There are some sites -- wow! You quickly get sick of the pornographic and violent hate speech -- ATS is amazingly mild actually, and much more thoughtful.

This site absolutely DOES have superior content.

Ahhh -- regarding the "Kick Texas Out" thread -- you might want to do some deeper reading on that one. Sometimes the strongests points are made via stark contrasts. Were you just irritated and annoyed by that thread? Or were you really offended and shocked?

Sounds like it was probably just a bad day for you, probably due to other circumstances that were not internet forum related. Just a guess.

Edit: Pesky quotes!

Who said anything about you, toots? But if the shoe fits, wear it.

Stop derailing the thread. Discuss the topic, not yourself.

I must say I counter your point with my counter point.

Also, "Waaa waaa waaa a liberal said we should kick Texas out! Now where's my thread talking about how we need to assassinate Obama because he's a secret Muslim and we need to exterminate all Muslims?"

Sound familiar?

Bugs, IMO, denying ignorance is allowing all their say.

Even if you completely disagree with it.

As an American, I feel everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Does it ay I agree with all posts or replies, no However, as long as people follow TAC, each is allowed to have their say/post.

This is what ATS was created for.

That is sort of difficult when they are one in the same. Based on his u2u to me, I am quite confident his rant is in regards to his displeasure of what was said in the Tony Snow thread mainly by me.

But I digress. That way you don't have to acknowledge my post, jso.

So, talk to him. Leave me out of it. I have no use for your puerile tactics of baiting and trolling, then crying to the mods when you get nailed.

At least he has decency, imo. He's not a gravedancer.

Exactly! Even if those other opinions are based on hatred. I totally agree with your post. But it can be read 2 ways. People who are glad about Snows death only have a different opinion than others. Even that opinion deserves to be expressed.
