Thanks for the post Storm. As I've said before, charity begins at home not abroad. I feel for the starving people in Africa and Asia, and other places around the World, but let's make Americans first on the list.

Nobody can be more American, than Native Americans in my opinion. They made a nice talking point for Barack, but his allegiances lie elsewhere. His proposed service program wishes to double the size of the Peace Corp to asist other countries, not America.

Wouldn't it be nice if they could likewise help the homeless, sick, and hungry people on the indian reservations too? They're more deserving of assistance than any foreign country.

It seems like every twenty miles down the highway in New Mexico and Arizona there is another indian casino right off the freeway eager to take one's money. And we all know that casino's are BIG money makers. So where does all that money go to?

The infighting in the tribes over casino monetary distribution is rampant in many tribes. Much of it is secret except to the directors. Being soverign nations with in the US its hard for the members who feel mistreated to get the actual information needed to get a fair shake. I'm sure NOT advocatiing US gov intervention. I don't think it would be legal but I know that something needs to be done to insure the full accounting and disbursment among tribal members for the good of the tribes involved.

Which is exactly why Natives need to sort out the mess with the casino's and help distribute the wealth among the tribes. They have a unique situation and if handled well those struggling could benefit substantially, instead of waiting for Government to bail them out.

I know of the extreme poverty many live in today. I feel those receiving the benefits from the Casino deal should also aid those that are not. As with all those that attain wealth, greed and power becomes a major factor.

Native Americans are not above this.

Keep in mind, there are plenty of suffering people in America that aren't in tribes.

The issue of poverty here in the States was well addressed by Edwards, yet I doubt any of the current runners for the White House, or past presidents, have done enough to help ALL struggling brothers and sisters here in the States.

This problem is not unique to Obama.

The Natives (and everyone else in poverty) should feel the same about McCain and Bush.

A person in extreme poverty is a person in extreme poverty.

I agree America needs to fix it's own broken fences before heading off to fix another one, but I am not able to say this poor person needs more than that poor person. There are plenty of ghettos in America. There are plenty of places to start. You can't put one group above another and say that this one honestly needs assistance but this one is just "whining" for a handout.

Which is usually what happens.

A ghetto is a ghetto.
Alcohol and drug issues run through Native ghettos like any other.
Again those problems need to be addressed across the board.

America doesn't do much to really solve the problem.
They never have. They simply lock you up.

I don't see why this is solely Obama's fault.

Seriously, to the person that wondered about the casino money: NAs have as many greedy, lying, cheating, lowlife leaders as any other group. It's human nature, and with the eroding of Native culture, which frowned on such character flaws, it has grown in accordance with how much the outside cultures have been accepted by any given tribe.
