A mother has been told she cannot travel to school with her severely epileptic son because she has not been police checked.

Jayne Jones, of Aberfan near Merthyr Tydfil, used to travel with her son Alex, 14, in the council-provided taxi when she feared he may have a fit.

But Merthyr Tydfil council has told her this must stop until she has undergone a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.

The council said this was a standard requirement for escorting children.

This is completely insane to me and yet another example of how the government are trying to take over the rights and freedom of us citizens.

How can a council possibly be justified in claiming that she can't travel with her own son until she's been CRB checked?

It beggars belief to me - it really does. Now if she was looking after some other children, I can understand that she would need a CRB disclosure then.

By the sounds of this the council are putting the lad at risk rather than protecting him.

This a complete case of lack of common sense in local government. Are people to simply follow rules with looking at where they are just daft?

I would even go as far to suggest that by saying that she CANNOT travel in the taxi with her son they are acting ultra vires.

Truly shocking.

I thought you had to be in a court of law after being arrested for possibly committing a crime to be proven guilty.

Innocent until proven guilty.. not 'let's-find-out-if-your-guilty' first and then we'll decide if you can or not....

This story, I find it to be almost a deliberate attempt to show that this 'law' is going to be enforced. I am not happy with the way she seems to be so easily going along with it.

It's her son... she should be throwing this farce back in their faces and telling them where to go. I, for one, would do exactly that.

The UK is now nothing more than an isolated work/prison camp. CCTV everywhere, massive restrictions coming into force on vehicles, charges to drive into major city areas, fines for this fines for that.. even 3 year old kids may now be accussed of racism if they don't like spicy foreign foods..


England, you've lost the plot. Heaven help anyone who has not yet left that prison island and whom will be forced to be chipped and catalogued. My thoughts are with you all.

Get a passport now (or renew your old one) before they demand you submit your DNA, retina scan, blood sample, and anything else they want.

This woman (if she's real and not some media puppet for the sake of propoganda) should be screaming blue murder at these officials.

It's wrong, wrong wrong what they are now doing.
