A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.

County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.

Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole."

That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.

Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term.

This is the result of the Faith-based Science program in Texas. How the hell can he not know that analogy?!? I've used it a couple of times in front of black people and they didn't bat a fricken eye-lash. Maybe people are just saner up here because of the cold, the heat must've fried some brains down south...

I heard that black holes really aren't black but just a very, very, very, dark grey. Black is the absence of color and if you look closely at a dark grey hole you will see just a hint of mauve.

Here is the Politicaly correct solutiuon, lets just officaly change the term, "Black hole" to 'Grey hole"... that way everyone will be happy... right...

The minute I read this I thought reversed racism.

The term black hole has been around as an object that swallows up a big deal. For someone to take that concept and turn it into a racist comment they need to already be in a racist train of thought. Yes, I'm saying that the judge himself is the racist... or at least overly sensitive.

If that poor lawyer spends his spare time reading science mags then that would be his first reference to something that swallows a lot. If he hadn't had a moral blockade his reference would probably have been some porn star

Is there something in the water or what? A black hole is black because it absorns light and looks like the color black. It's also a place from where things can't escape (although that's another thread entirely).

If people are seeing racist comments in otherwise benign comments, it is they with the problem.

With him referring to it as a "white hole", just WTF is he on about?

That's pretty silly! The word black is a color. It's has several uses. It's not ALWAYS about race.

A little local flavor if I may. As a long time resident of Dallas Co. I can tell you that JWP is a race baiter of the highest order. While he’s been behaving himself for the past few years after karate chopping someone (I kid you not), he now seems to be ready to go off the deep end again. Today he was going on about how black=bad, and white=good in many instances of vernacular speech, and so he was justified in his objection to the use of the term ‘black hole’. I’m really quite surprised to see this story get global attention, then again perhaps not.

I personally have never seen a "Black" person before.I have seen brown people and what you might call "Malado" people(people with both races in their heritage.)I have also seen people with what you would say is olive complexion such as the Latino culture and of course myself being Caucasian I would not say I have "White" skin....the whole thing is asinine.People of all races need to get over themselves and realize we are all human beings. So tired of it all.

There should be a lower limit of intellect and emotional stability below which no office holder may fall. IMO, that's a lot of baggage to be bringing into a position of public trust.

Well some cultural groups change their names every few years anyways. A few years ago it was negro, then it became colored, then black, now it is often African American or people of color. Lets just give it some time before changing all the books.

I think it's pretty clear this guy is an idiot, trying to score political points with fellow idiots.

I'm as anti-racist as they get, but this complaint has no basis in reality
