Wormwood: Is the bible refering to Chernobyl, Planet X or nuclear war?

By Irvin Baxter Jr. (www.endtime.com)
"And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter."
Revelation 8:10-11
The book of Revelation describes cataclysmic events that are to happen in the endtime. Part of these events are signaled by the blowing of seven trumpets by seven angels. At the sounding of the third trumpet in chapter 8, a great star called Wormwood was cast into the earth.

Interesting...
Here´s some info from wikipedia:

Interpretations of Revelation 8:11

[edit] Historist interpretations

Various religious groups and figures, including Seventh-day Adventists and the theologians Matthew Henry and John Gill,[5] regard the verses of Revelation 8 as symbolic references to past events in human history. In the case of Wormwood, some historist interpreters believe that this figure represents the army of the Huns as led by king Attila, pointing to chronological consistencies between the timeline of prophecy they have accepted and the history of the Huns' campaign in Europe.[6] Others point to Arius, the emperor Constantine, Origen or the ascetic monk Pelagius, who denied the doctrine of Original sin.[5]

Another interpretation leads some researchers to conclude that the events of Revelation are in mid-progress. For example, the name for a specific type of wormwood is translated in Ukrainian to "Chernobyl" (or "Чорнобиль")[7]. Therefore, the meltdown of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in A.D. 1986 could be interpreted as the verses in Revelation referenced above that state, "When the third angel blew his trumpet, a large star burning like a torch fell from the sky. It fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The star was called "Wormwood," and a third of all the water turned to wormwood. Many people died from this water, because it was made bitter"[8].

[edit] Futurist interpretations

Commentators favoring a naturalistic interpretation of Revelation 8:10 relate it to the last days, seeing Wormwood as a meteor fated to strike the earth and cause environmental calamities.[9] Others, while not specifying a precise method, see in the verse a "personification of something God threatens to do to [His] people when they allow themselves to be deceived by false prophets."[10]

[edit] Alternative interpretations

A number of Bible scholars consider the term Wormwood to be a purely symbolic representation of the bitterness that will fill the earth during troubled times, noting that the plant for which Wormwood is named, Artemisia absinthium, is a known Biblical metaphor for things that are unpalatably bitter.[11][12]

I posed this question once to a group of friends, and one speculated that perhaps Wormwood was a doomsday comet.

However, it is obviously open to interpretation. So, Wormwood could be anything you choose it to be, depending upon your perspective.

Psychopump with the 'Alternative interpetations', that wormwood is meaning bitterness, as the term wormwood is used several times in different Bible books. bitterness mixed with gall ...

but my imagination cradels the idea that the wormwood (bitterness) that is sent upon 1/3 of the rivers and fountains
(?does this mean wells?)
[Rev. 8: 10-11]

is caused by a singular event...the verses say that a single 'Star' falls from heaven, shining (brilliantly) like a lamp...
and it is that light which causes 1/3rd of the rivers and wells to become polluted/bitter

one explaination is that a neutron bomb, which is all light & radiation,
explodes over either Jerusalem (the focal point of the return) or over the kingdom of the Beast-AntiChrist
the fish etc. all die in the lakes and rivers or at least 1/3 of all rivers making the water putrid and in need of purification.

however, if the verses are meaning 1/3 of ALL the rivers and fountains on the planet, then a much more global, powerful, cosmic force is the cause,

It may be that a GRB (gamma ray burst) that lasts for the 8-12 hours,
so the 'Star Light(which falls from heaven)' radiates the majority of the continental landmass of Asia, Europe, Africa, western hemisphere as the Earth rotates East. therby causing 1/3rd of the planets fresh water sources to become 'wormwood'=putrid as the microbes, bacteria, fish, and fresh water insects, crayfish etc all die and pollute the waters.

Perhaps it's all just symbolic. After all Revelations was just a dream and how does the subconscious most often communicate to us in dreams? Through symbols.

Perhaps Revelations is a battle we all must fight within ourselves. And perhaps it's already happening right now!

Therin lies the dilemma and the problem. The bible IMO is all interpretation. It is and has been interpreted by scholars in many generations and added to so many times that the original meaning may have long ago been lost.

With each time it is decoded and translated, in each time period their is a time of crisis and a complete series of generations of people looking for something greater than themselves for answers. The fear they display in their day to day lives directly affect translations of the bible, essentially making it nothing more than the world's greatest round of "The Telephone Game".

Sorry, I for one think it is nothing more than retrospect and another generation of scared people trying to find meaning to their exsistance.

To a meteorite large as a mountain, that will strike Eastern Europe, all the rivers there turned bitter because of the iron metal.

None of the above

It appears that a celestial body, for instance a comet or an asteriod, will pass close to Earth, scattering flaming pellets that will maim and kill many, then either on its reciprocal orbit from around the sun or at some later orbit, it wil impact into the Eathr rendering a third of all waters bitter.

This may occur as early as 2018.

If you will suspend your disbelief for a moment and consider the possibility that Revelation is not only symbolic but also real prophecy of the end of things, you might think it reasonable to interpret the meaning of things on the basis of conditions now in evidence (which were not in evidence when John was shown the visions).

Nowadays nuclear armament and the prospect of global nuclear war is a reality, not science fiction (like pictures that talk etc.) and the radiation poisoning of nuclear fallout from a global nuclear conflict could very easily poison a third of our world.

People who insist that nothing that bad could ever possibly happen are only practicing wishful thinking along the lines of older children who still believe in Santa Claus.

Many unimaginably evil things happen to innocent people in our world, sometimes millions of them by the same turn of event. Probably there were people after the first gun was produced and distributed who simply refused to believe that such a weapon would ever be used. But guns are used. Nuclear weapons were used by the USA against Japan. Already happened. When atrocities of the kind you hear on the news are committed by Israel against their Muslim neighbors, and Muslims are willing to blow up their own body to fight back against the injustices of a so-called "Judeo-Christian" dominated planet, the possibility of men using nuclear weapons to kill other men is very believable, realistic, and awfully likely to happen.

This world is not ruled by Love nor Truth, but by hate, pride, greed, and the lust for power that lives in them who rule over the rest of us.

As it was in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah so shall it be in the last days.

If a loving God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, why should we be any different?

We should not. We shall not. There is an end of all things even at the door. Not like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. For real, like Nagasaki and Hiroshima was real. Sorry right back at you.

Cheers.
