CHINESE police have this year detained 82 suspected terrorists in the nation's Muslim-populated far north-west who were planning to attack the Beijing Olympics, state media reported today.

The 82 belonged to five groups that "allegedly plotted sabotage against the Beijing Olympics," Xinhua news agency reported, citing the head of the police in Urumqi, the capital of remote Xinjiang region that borders central Asia.

Would it be worth guessing at how much 'housekeeping' the Chinese have taken care of in the lead up to the Games?

I dare say that 82 people is probably a lower bound to the truth. It seems like swift justice to shoot five muslims dead for planning 'holy war'.

Anyway, I personally can't stand the Olypmic Games. Big deal, they can run and swim faster than me. I WON'T be watching it.
