Cholesterol Drugs Recommended For Some 8 Year Olds

health.lifestyle.yahoo.ca

For the first time, an influential doctors group is recommending that some children as young as 8 be given cholesterol-fighting drugs to ward off future heart problems.

Dr. Stephen Daniels, of the academy's nutrition committee, says the new advice is based on mounting evidence showing that damage leading to heart disease, the nation's leading killer, begins early in life.

This is one of the most ridiculous "treatments" I've ever seen. The CT in me thinks Big Pharma just found an entirely untapped consumer base - fat kids.

The article also states that the pediatrician group recommends 1% milk for infants despite the fact that

The academy has long recommended against reduced-fat milk for children up to age 2 because saturated fats are needed for brain development.

The extreme CT in me thinks that not only are they trying to market useless pills to children but they are also trying to make them dumber by inhibiting brain development through deprivation of necessary nutrients.

Li said that 15 years ago most of her patients with cholesterol problems had an inherited form of cholesterol disease not connected to obesity. "But now they're really outnumbered" by overweight kids with cholesterol problems and high blood pressure, she said.

Here's an idea...get them to lose weight and their cholesterol will drop!! Stop feeding them McD's for breakfast and make them a frickin bowl of oatmeal. Make them exercise instead of playing PS3 for hours a night. If a kid is 8 years old he should be running around outside playing all kinds of games and coming home dirty and exhausted.

There is absolutely no reason to be peddling these pills to children outside of a very few very rare cases that can't be controlled with diet and exercise. Just another quick fix that will end up having side effects that are worse than the original problem.

What this doctor is no telling is that statin drugs were previously to be use only for patients with advance hart disease, due to the fact that the drugs side effects can be harmful to the persons that take them.

Cholesterol is easily treated with exercises, diet or at least change in diet and natural remedies, Omega 3 supplements, B6 and B 12 and CQ10 one of the main targets of statin, they deplete the CQ 10 and damage the liver, the brain and also the hart as a muscle.
