Punters Bet That First Contact Is Imminent

Following a further rash of UFO sightings, bookies William Hill have slashed their price about proof of the current existence of intelligent extra terrestrial life being confirmed by the serving Prime Minister from 500/1 to 100/1.

"There has been a huge increase in the number of UFO sighting and a number of our punters are taking them as a sign that 'First Contact' is imminent." said William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.

William Hill have also opened the betting on where the first landing will be and make No.10 Downing Street and the Millennium Stadium their 5/1 joint favourites with the Angel of the North offered at 10/1, Arthur's Seat 20/1 and the Giants Causeway the 22/1 outsider.

£1 Million Bet On Beijing Aliens

"We recently took a bet from George Weiss that UFO's would appear at either the opening or closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, which if proved correct will cost us a £1 million pounds. We can only hope that the UFO's spotted in Wales are not doing their dress rehearsal." said William Hill's spokesman.

Now i do wonder, why would anyone place a million pounds/dollars/euros bet on something you cant possibly win, except if you have knowledge other people dont have.

If you dont have any knowledge about it you would never place such a bet, not even if you have 20 million dollars.

Does anyone know who this George Weiss guy is?

He has not placed a million pound bet, william hill said it would cost them a million so he has bet 2,000 at 500/1 or 10,000 at 100/1 depends what odds he got

all he needs is for an unidentified object in the sky at the olympics, shouldnt be too difficult to arrange. You can bet on anything though i remember years ago someone bet that elvis presley will crash a ufo into the loch ness monsters head, i think the odds are quite large but its a funny betting slip to pass around the pub.

100 to 1 or 500 to 1, it's a suckers bet!
by dropping the odds, they create a demand by nurturing a delusion.

By all means look to the sky, but keep your moolah in your pocket.

This idea was thrown around here about a month ago in another thread about what would constitute as acceptable proof of an Alien existence. Actually, the idea was an off the cuff scenario suggested by an ATS member.

One can't help feel that this is where this whole talk of Aliens appearing at the Olympics began. Those guys must read ATS threads. I wouldn't put a single red cent into the deal because this is exactly how all rumors begin! From nothing!

hate to point this out, but its NOT a Million pound bet, its a bet that PAYS a million pounds.

he might have stuck a tenner on at 100,000 / 1 or more likely £100.00 at 10,000 to 1.

sorry

Yes indeed, my bad.

But still, why would someone place such a bet while the world is, at this moment, in a UFO wave? Coincidence from someone whith enough money and sense of comedy?

It just does not add up. Why not betting on who will win the English Premier League this season or whatever.

Aah well, probably nothing again.
Ive let my hopes of first contact in my lifetime flew a long time ago

no problem my friend, i knew it was too good to be true myself. I think though that anyone who DID have genuine knowledge of first contact so to speak wouldnt be on the phone to his bookies, he would be playing the markets as i suspect they would crash and he could make a killing.

Theres lots of people in this country who make daft bets, such as elvis being found alive or shergar being discovered on the moon.. you get the idea
