why ATS has a bad name amongst some people....

i was speaking to somebody last week who frequents this site and they mentioned that when nasa got to the moon they met aliens and saw that they had a civilization there etc... fair enough conspiracy by its self... anyway...

a week later...

im speaking to the same person and the moon landing comes up, he says it was faked and they never did it, radiation belt, picture anomolies etc....

but i mean come on... they both cant physically be true!! some people just want to believe anything to keep their mind going.. does anyone else have experience of this, i mean dont get me wrong, i believe in some far fetched crazy things, but i dont just believe in anything, some people here take it wayyyy too far.

ATS is just a cross section of Society in general. Some intelligent and discerning, others absolute morons.

And now that being computer literate is about as difficult as shopping for shoes, the bar has been lowered some.

And anyone that takes anything said on the www. as gospel might be a little on the simple side.

i have been on ats a short time now, the mods are superb and helpful, as well as friendly.....some of the things on this site are no doubt ridiculous, but anyone with a brain can weed through the crap very quickly...about the moon landing, its been covered every which way, mainly there are two sides to the story, but if you remove the fence, they could fit together nicely

I find it humorus that you just proved the O.P.s point. While attempting to prove them wrong, which they may be, you just stereotyped everyone that owns a gun.

I am actually a college educated (BFA of all things) common sense, slightly left of middle of the road, well read American. banned or warning? why what have i done? im not putting anyone down, i said why SOME people have a bad name. thats hardly derogatory to ATS.

It's called freedom of speech and it is entirely otherworldly... to have millions who can express themselves without fear of reprisal.

Test it out sometime. Dare yourself to say something that you know will be ridiculed in the mainstream or discounted by your peers. It is very... liberating.

I fail to see why some people think what they read on the internet should be treated any differently from what you encounter in real life.
In real life everyone has there own BS meter, and it serves us well enough.
Here it should be the same thing..if it seems BS to you..
run it through your mental filter and MOVE ALONG.
There is a lot of good info here, just bring your shovel and feel free to use it whenever you see fit.
Nothing any where, on the net or in real life, should ever be taken or accepted as 100% the creed of the universe. And you must respect, that many, are just learning what a conspiracy theory even is.

It's hardly a tyranny if you can point that out.

Show a little respect, mind your manners (we don't have to act like politicians) and spend more time reading than writing.

These are some of the most open minded people you will ever meet.

I know people who just write off ATS as nutsville, but then there are others who just have a negative opinion because of the way people treat each other on this website. I'm a newbie but lurked for a long time until I just had to jump in. But the one weakness I see is that different topics are moderated with very different standards. In some areas the mods stay right on top of the people who are always abusive in their posts. Then there are other topics where the mods just don't seem to be moderating the way the conversation is going even if you feel you need to alert them.

My general feeling is that with human beings there will be all kinds of variety in both kinds of posts, the ideas held, and even the way different mods work. I like the things I read here, and some things I wouldn't find anywhere else. That's a real strength of ATS.

i totally agree with youy, ive been coming here for over 4 years, mainly reading stuff, i simply pointed out why some people have bad opinions of ats, because of a few people, was just my opinion, which is freedom fo speech right? anyway, some people took offence so let it die now if u want. i only asked for others peoples experiences... it wasnt to have a go if you read what i said again.

I this is mostly do to the fact that some topics have the tendency to become more "heated" than others and there fore need to be more tightly controlled...

hmm well thats understandable, apologies to anyone who got the impression that i was here to cause trouble.
Im fond of a large majority on ATS, and their views. i just wanted experiences of people who have come across others that maybe take it too far? maybe i put it across the wrong way. apologies again.

On the first count, we're folks just as yourselves. Life happens and you catch what you can along the way. Hopefully, someone else will alert you to that which you might have inadvertantly missed or overlooked. <--

As for the second and third points, Well... I think you're quite spot on. Again, we're all different in our own ways and means but the collective wealth of knowledge, input and varied opinions and views are what make it different... if you ask me.

You can read here that which you won't find elsewhere, but hopefully we'll soon be seeing Elsewhere that which we read here first.
