The 1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack was the food poisoning of more than 750 individuals in The Dalles, Oregon, United States through the contamination of salad bars at ten local restaurants with salmonella. A leading group of followers of Osho, then known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, had hoped to incapacitate the voting population of the city so that their own candidates would win the 1984 Wasco County elections. The incident was the first bioterrorism attack in the United States, and the single largest bioterrorist attack in United States history. The attack is one of only two confirmed terrorist uses of biological weapons to harm humans.

wiki 1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack

There have been 943 reported cases nationwide, with at least 130 hospitalizations since mid-April after the first salmonella illnesses appeared, the Food and Drug Administration said Saturday. That compares with a total of 922 people about two days ago and 869 reported earlier in the past week.

943 cases confirmed

The recent salmonella case reminded me of the events of 1984, in which it was used in a bioterror attack on the US population. FDA currently have no idea who is to blame and what has caused the recent out break, but a recent conservation in chat raised the possibility of these being a deliberated act.

Seems odd to blame this event on a few little Mexicans South of the border.
