CNN Poll: Most Americans Say Founding Fathers Wouldn't Be Impressed

"Not Pleased"?!?

The Founding Fathers are likely rolling over in their graves with what has been occurring to this nation in recent times! Pretty much everything they worked so hard to establish in the constitution has been OBLIVIATED.

They have to be equally upset with we, the people, for our complacency and apathy for continuing to allow it to happen. It goes against everything they wrote and stood for!

Sigh...

(CNN) -- How would the likes of Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin feel about the way the United States has turned out 232 years after declaring its independence?

Not pleased, a majority of Americans recently polled said.

According to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey, 69 percent of adult Americans who responded to a poll June 26-29 said the signers of the Declaration of Independence would be disappointed by the way the nation has turned out overall.

How can we blame the American people who, unbeknown to them (metaphorically speaking) had their newspapers replace ideologically crafted propaganda and indoctrination booklets?

It is only recently that we have begun to cultivate a culture of inquiry into the motivations and actions of our leaders. For the most part, it wasn't until the relatively recent machinations of the neocons that the national direction became evident.

I disagree that their ire would be directed at the population of the country as much as those who disregarded their oaths of office for political and personal reasons. What kind of mentality can rationalize away an oath to 'defend' the Constitution? These are the people we have been 'tricked' into admiring and respecting.

Nevertheless, I suspect at least a handful of our founding fathers would be considering open revolt. The only problem is that America can't imagine living without the materialistic and 'consumer' icons they have come to worship - or so they are being conditioned by the media drug.

Some very good points. There is no question that the complete infiltration and control of the Media and their message to the masses has helped these Orwellian prophecies come to life, that which perhaps even the founding father's may not have imagined in their wildest nightmares.

But the materialism end of things is about to come to a screeching end, as we can see here, the money pot has all but dried up.

Will this FINALLY wake up all those who have been waterboarded by the kool-aid into submission, servitude, and acceptance of foregoing their constitutional rights and civil liberties? Perhaps the financial situation is just what is needed to wake all the sleepwalkers up.

I think if your shoes aren't soaking with the blood of every corupt official in the goverment( ie everyone in office), the founding fathers would look at you like the scum that helped the english during our independance. This country was founded on HATING THE RULING CLASS!!! grow a pair or this constitutional republic will die with no more than a wimper.

Depending on other countries resources instead of our own, and making Americans suffer because of it would definately have them in a tizzy.

Depends on which founding father you are referring to. Keep in mind the country started going downhill almost immediately after Washington was elected. If you ask John Adams he would be a little disappointed but not much because he believed in a strong central government. However if you ask Thomas Jefferson he would be disgusted he wanted a very small central government with all of the power going to the states. So it depends on who you would talk to. I know Alexander Hamilton would be proud this is the kind of set up he was looking for.
