No sound, hovering, bright object, she saw airplanes going by which looked nothing like what they were seeing.

Again it seems "The Sun" ran the story as well, good on them

Swati said: "It was a clear night. The object seemed to be just hovering and I did see a split second of a flash of green light as well. It was like a light bulb "I had the window open to make sure it was not a reflection and there are no buildings or cranes behind us, just a park. And it was too low to be a star.

She said "I couldn't hear any helicopters, but I did see aeroplanes fly above it and beneath it and the object just dimmed and remained still like it was hovering.Baffled Swati woke husband Havinder, 35, to look at the object but the mum stopped filming 45 minutes later when she got tired.

Video.

This made me laugh! Obviously the person filming doesn't have a clue...

It's Jupiter, and not a UFO!

Request to those who try to capture UFO's on film, or report them:

Please make sure you know your arse from your elbow, otherwise you are just making things harder for us who what to concentrate on real UFO footage and sightings.

Go out and watch the stars, satellites, meteor showers, etc. Then when you know what the normal stuff looks like contribute... Not the other way around!

So your saying a regular camcorder can see Jupiter that looks like this?

Yes - pretty easily (especially when not properly focused) with todays very high zoom ratios.

Can someone here post an example please?
I would but I don't have a camcorder.

Yes right now jupiter is bigger and brighter than all the stars, I'm just wondering why? I see it every night lately, at least I assume it's jupiter.

That looks a little too large and too bright to be Jupiter, not that I doubt a lot of sightings are Jupiter, or Venus sometimes.

And I doubt you could see "little openings going around" if it were Jupiter, or whatever she said about seeing "little openings."

Thanks for posting, wild times over in the UK, wish I was there to see some of it firsthand!

Trust me from london at night jupiter is very large and bright for some reason, and if you were to zoom in on it with a camera it would probably look the same.
But not saying that's what it is for sure, it's pretty hard to tell from that video.

I wish my video camera wasnt broken.

I don't think Jupiter would appear to be any smaller at the same latitude anywhere else in the world. When visually observing it at such a low altitude above the horizon, as it is at the moment, the same effect that causes the "moon illusion" is probably responsible for making it appear to be larger than it actually is. Of course, this would not affect the apparent size when captured on video.

As for it's apparent brightness, with little else even approaching it's brightness (-2.7 mag) in the night sky at the moment, it's not easy to find a frame of reference to compare the brightness with. Once again, the brain is easily tricked under such circumstances.

Edit to add: After checking with my planetarium software, Jupiter is indeed brighter than usual. Back in January, it was -1.8 mag, which is nearly 2.5x less bright than it is now. We are obviously closer to Jupiter now, so brightness and apparent size would be greater than in previous months. Just for comparison, Venus gets up to about -4 mag, which is another 2.5x/3x brighter than Jupiter is now.
