Not bad, Lol, there is a little irony in that isn't there! Still doesn't take away from the point.

Well, I was merely trying to define a point that, our natural biases will affect our pride and devotion, it was quite a bit more innocent than you are assuming. But sometimes people show their hand too easy anyway, no need to even say.

Hi, I live in Denver, Co where this took place and I seen this on the news last night. It's my understanding that the song is called "Lift every voice and sing" however the news reporters specifically referred to it as "The Black National Anthem" numerous times. This upset me because either the media is intentionally calling it the "Black National Anthem" and black people don't even call it that, OR: Black people do call it that which means that a race has it's own national anthem. wtf???

In today's modern world there isn't a single country whose population consists of 100% all one race. Majorities...sure. But not 100%. So I feel that no race at all should have a "National Anthem". America is a nation that consists of citizens of every race. Imagine a "National Anthem" for each and every race of peoples that call America home. That's a lot of anthems and theytwould take away from the value and meaning of the true "National Anthem". As well as create un-necessary division in a time when unification is needed so desperately.

Imagine a "White National Anthem" wouldn't that piss some people off. Imagine the Mayor of your city asked someone to ...oh let's say "Hang the American Flag up before the conference" and that individual decided to express their pride in America by creating their own new flag never seen before with new colors and different symbolism and surprising everyone at the conference with the new creation.

I wish I knew who was the first to refer to this song as "The Black National Anthem" because something about this whole BS makes me think it's just the media imposing a racist ideal in a rather sneaky way. The lady should be fired and the news people should report things without a slant to them. ARGGG!!!

so much fuss because of a national anthem , bunch of patriotic fanatics

You may not respect your country, but I'd ask you not to $hit on those who actually do, thank you very much.

neformore and the rest of you left wingers who think us patriots are making such a big deal of this, let's turn this whole situation around shall we?

Let's say some famous ancenstral black song was to be sung and instead some white woman got up and sang something else that she wrote, completely different.

Now ask yourselves, if this were to occur, would you and the rest of your liberal kind be screaming "Injustice!" toward black people? Would you be screaming racism and racial intolerance?

I dare say you would, because with all of you, ALL OF YOU, the door swings only ONE WAY. Hypocrites!

yeah right , i would be soooo angry with that , because i never had my share of stories about blacks who use there heritage of slavery has a weapon.
And whats you obsession with liberals?You seem to like to dub people that dont agree with you has liberals

Now that's a simple answer. I'm not saying it's completely true of course because I don't know for sure, but my assumption is that anyone reducing the significance of this woman replacing the national anthem with her own song at a rally organized by liberals would themselves be liberals.

But then again, I firmly believe that it's the conservatives who have this nation's best interests at heart and it's the liberals who want to turn it into a socialist nation.

This song has been out waaaay before I was born: (1899)

****People keep saying this was made up recently. Please google this before posting outrageous claims.

*****Racism still exists today by some of the comments on this board. I guess it's easier to say it behind a keyboard than in public.

It's Actually called Lift every voice and sing and NOT the black national anthem, which so many people have been confused on.

Lift every voice and sing, till earth and Heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise, high as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet,
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered;
Out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years, God of our silent tears,
Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who hast by Thy might, led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee.
Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee.
Shadowed beneath Thy hand, may we forever stand,
True to our God, true to our native land.

Hmmm, singing about peace, love, unity and God.

Seems much more respectable than singing about bombs blowing up over military installations. For some reason, that just leaves a foul taste in my mouth.

^
What I meant by the above is that some people may view the US as a warlike nation. Others may be able to see past that violent history into something better, and more loving. Personally, I'm 'trying' to see past that violence that is inherent to the system. Maybe she was too, and felt that a more positive song could show her personal view of our nation.....

You don't think maybe...your completely missing the point? Ofcourse it was not written technically as the "black" national anthem, but over the years has....HAS(fact) become synonymous among the black community as the "black" national anthem, this is a reality you can not deflect no matter how hard you try by assuming we are racist, thats rediculously ignorant on your part. So it's not really a stretch to see that this women had a political statement she was making, hell she even admits it.

No. Lets not. Let me recount what I've posted. I'll type it slowly for you.

I have said that I believe the woman was wrong to do what she did.

Its there in whatever colours you have your screen in.

What I objected to was the tie in to Obama in the OP when there actually was no mention of him in any of the news bulletins about what the woman did, and he has had no involvement in the story whatsoever

Are you clear on that now?

Okay then, I relent. I've gone back through the posts and read them, and I do see that you have stated from the beginning that there was no connection to Obama with this story. And I see that you were defending the facts and not the conspiracy theory. While I love a good conspiracy theory as much as I love a good ghost story, I want the facts to back them up or disprove them as well, so I offer my apologies for coming down on you so hard.

Fact is there is no connection that we know of between what happened here and Obama. Doesn't mean there couldn't be, but there aren't facts to back it up.

I will stand behind what I said, however, that I still believe it to be disrespectful to replace the national anthem with another song. The fact that it happens to be the "black" national anthem doesn't mean anything, except I wonder if the liberals organizing this meeting did that on purpose to rile up the Republicans.

Did I say you were racist, to be honest I read the first page and posted that. I didn't even see your posts, until after my post.

Also, I am black, and I understand this more than most people.

Why is it wrong to have a black national anthem? I wouldn't care if there was a mexican national anthem or a muslim national anthem.

Let's break this down:

Black - Black people
National - Across the country
Anthem - song of celebration

Peoples minds have become tainted because it says national anthem, all they know is the regular traditional national anthem, and they think no other anthem can be out there because of this.
