Some of you folks are quite well versed but for those that are not, an effort needs to be made to bring understanding to what is actually going on. Once you realize that all these problems are a normal 'civilization death cycle' you can get beyond the blame and like a good boy or girl scout begin to develop long term strategies for yourself and your children.

The Olduvai theory states that industrial civilization (as defined by per capita energy consumption) will have a lifetime of less than or equal to 100 years (1930-2030)

Please read the wiki link and pay attention to the three end stages of decline as well as the timeline including Peak Water, before responding.

By the way, feel free to star and flag.....

Thought it was important to also draw the same conclusions to the death of Rome and the beginning of the dark ages. Although Rome did not have technology as we do they were in a civilization thats population had outstripped resources. as Rome became dependent on crops of other countries, famines in those places spelled the beginning of the end for them.

OP, you are right. Industrial Civilization is probably on the way down. We cannot support this indefinite growth. If we solve our oil problems, and don't hit peak oil, we will continue to grow exponentially. What's next? Peak Topsoil? Something I read that was interesting on the subject was the Unabomber Manifesto. It's not so much about why the industrial revolution can't last, but on why its downfall will be good for humanity.

Just a thought.
