Nano rollout by Durga Puja despite cost overrun

econ omictimes.indiatimes.com

Mr Kant made it clear that Tata Motors had come to West Bengal to manufacture cars, not to do politics. “We want everybody with us. Tata Motors is now very much a part of Singur,” he reiterated.

The car is slated to hit the roads in October. The company was also hopeful that trial production would commence sometimes July-August. “Barring any unforeseen incidents, we expect to start trial production shortly. A number of decisions were taken on Friday when I met contractors, suppliers, vendor park people and the senior management at Singur to expedite the project work. We are confident to roll out Nano in October, sometime during Durga Puja, “ Mr Kant said.

aha , the very innovative Tata nano , the 2500$ car , which made international headlines , is soon going to enter production ..

not only is it cheap , but rather in the age of high oil prices , it offers great efficiency and low maintenance costs

more on nano

The Nano, he said, was receiving a huge response from international markets. Enquiries, he said, were pouring in from the US, Latin America, Europe and south east Asia, exploring the possibility of a Nano plant being set up anywhere in those countries.

It´s a fantastic initiative, but I think the consumer will need rather intensive reprogramming in order for the car to be a success.
The simple fact is, it looks RIDICULOUS!
The size of the wheels make a child's stroller look pimped.

I worry about the safety of the car too.

That is one cool car! I love it! it looks great, it's small, gets good gas mileage and it's inexpensive! In a world full of monsterous, gas guzzling SUV's this little gem should be a star!
Thanks OP for the post! starred and flagged!

It's an ugly car, but it's not as ugly as the drivers mangled body once they get hit by another car.

My point(s) exactly.
I would NEVER let my wife drive one.

(or ANY car for that matter, but that´s because she can´t drive)

manson_322, do you have access to any crash-test reports, from NCAP for example? I don´t recall the car getting a rating at all....
