I consider myself to be reasonably knowledgeable when it comes to computers, but I have no idea why that would be running 6 times. I mean, 3 instances are SYSTEM, 2 NETWORK SERVICE and 1 LOCAL SERVICE. Why? Why does it do that?

Granted they aren't using much memory but still, why does it do that?

Mine has 6 as well. 4 system, 1 local, and 1 network.

You can open a dos prompt and use "tasklist /svc" to see what executables are being used by the various instances.

This may help to gain a better understanding of just what svchost is and what it does:
What is svchost.exe And Why Is It Running?

Hope this helps...

Yes, it does help as it links to process explorer, which I've seen a friend use and think "that's a good task manager".

Also it explains the multiple instances too, which is even better, though why they couldn't call them differently depending on the type I don't know.

Thanks

One more note that history does repeat itself:

Win98 to WinME was a downgrading upgrade

WinXP to WinVista is a downgrading upgrade

too true, vista is the worst thing to happen to operating systems. I'm currently on a....errrrmmm..... 'modded' version of xp. once xp is no longer supported i will be learning linux.

Can you post a screen shot of what you're seeing?

I don't have any instances of svchost.exe showing in TM, running Vista.
