MiG-29 Fulcrum Sustained altitude record

I've read rumors about the fulcrum beating the SR-71's max sustained altitude record of 85,000 feet but flying for *unknown amount of time* at 90,000 feet.

ca anyone confirm and link to an official source stating this?

Um...no. First of all, I think you meant the Mig-25, because the Mig-29 is like an F-16 class fighter which could NEVER reach those altitudes. Also, yes, the Mig-25 flew higher, but only for a short amount of time. It went like a rocket up to 123,000 ft and then came straight back down.

bdn12 is correct it was a Mig 25 that the OP is referring to. The plane was piloted by MiG OKB Chief Test Pilot Alexander Fedotov at the Podmoskovnoye, USSR. Of note this record is the only recognized absolute record not held by a pilot from the United States.

I can't find a thread dedicated to this subject so maybe a new title by a Mod would help just to make sure we don't get misinformed posts on this thread?
