Um...no. First of all, I think you meant the Mig-25, because the Mig-29 is like an F-16 class fighter which could NEVER reach those altitudes. Also,
yes, the Mig-25 flew higher, but only for a short amount of time. It went like a rocket up to 123,000 ft and then came straight back down.
bdn12 is correct it was a Mig 25 that the OP is referring to. The plane was piloted by MiG OKB Chief Test Pilot Alexander Fedotov at the
Podmoskovnoye, USSR. Of note this record is the only recognized absolute record not held by a pilot from the United States.
