Study: 44% of Internet traffic is peer-to-peer file sharing

Peer-to-peer file-sharing applications represent 44 percent of all bandwidth consumed on networks operated by North American Internet service providers, up from around 41 percent a year ago, according to a survey by Sandvine, a vendor of bandwidth-management systems, Multichannel.com reported.

Well, this shoots the "youtube is responsible for the bandwisth restriction proposals" idea in the foot. According to this, less than 15% of bandwidth useage is from streaming media, of which youtube would be included.

Maybe there is something to the theory I saw yesterday that indicated the new bandwidth charges being tossed around are being spearheaded by the recording industry.
