Why? good question.. why not?

When you consider how much you spend on day to day life and luxuries, doesn't it make sense on going a little extra step to protect them.

Why pay insurance on your house?
Your car?
Your life?

Apart from some cases being a legal requirement,it's a matter of speculation.
What would happen if you didn't.. and you had..
A house fire?
A crash?
Did that ..ermm.. stop-living-thing..

In each case you are preparing for the worst but,of course, hoping for the best.

Only difference in 'survivalism' being that, instead of increased premiums, yours and your family's life and livelihood are at stake.

Now with speculation comes risk assessment.
"It'll never happen to me/us"well..great positive thinking..but not very realistic.
How many people were surprised by

Hurricane Katrina,UK flooding,Oil prices,911,Sub-prime sit.??

All I can say is don't get caught out by A CHANCE of either.

Bird flu mutation.
World war over the Iran situation.
Over-population and food shortages.
Economic crash.
Climate change.
Civil disturbance/martial law.
Energy shortages.
Pole shift.

Oooo..don't forget the 'Terrorists'' you can't leave them out..(That one's for you Bushie babe )

(and I SO want to add Alien invasion.. but I won't..)

Within each of these scenario's there are numerous 'sub -scenarios' some of which are already hitting headlines.
Yes,of course it's 'news' and it's their job to sensationalise topics to sell papers.. but why are more and more 'it'll never happen' topics hitting the dailys.. because it just happened?.

I wouldn't hold my breath for an insurance pay-out on any of the above so invest in a bit of knowledge and preparation instead.

Better to look a little silly than to stop doing that 'breathing thing' we all like.

.......
NOTE to certain 'dailys'

We appreciate the coverage of our topics here..even if it is a few days later.

Go on then.. I'll plug ya's.

Well they're more than welcome to i guess, it's just a shame that we never get any plugs from them.

I'd love to see what would happen if ATS got a mention in a national paper.

Nothing wrong with being distracted by squirrels - they're cute, even the ones with black fur.

Still, your reasoning for starting the thread is valid, even if you did technically avoid my question...

Hey T great idea for a thread...

Was reading this on the BBC before

news.bbc.co.uk...

New warnings about the need to prepare for dams being breached are to be published in a major study into last summer's floods, the BBC has learned.

Seems it might be prudent in the UK to plan for flooding...hopefully this summer we wont get as much rain as last year. How ironic there a river flowing down my road at the min lol better break out the wetsuit and kayak

EDIT: The u2u's are still down T are we still on for tommora?

You can safely add alien invasion to the list. There are some 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S. and they're not here on vacation
