I do agree with you that there is a culture in the west of hiding behind financial protection, and having very little idea of what to do if that financial protection becomes worthless.

Money is indeed the 'route' of all evil.

Fair's fair though. We take a lot of stories from newspapers to start with.
It's just that with all the 'reporters' we have on site now..It's gotta be a tough act to follow resource wise.

Especially when one of 'our reporters' is on the scene and posts here before dailys get a hold of the story.

DIMENSIONAL DETECTIVE has got to take a lot of credit for breaking the good stuff to ATS..

A lot of that 'invincibility' comes from being too dependent on money to supply our needs..
We've lost the art of farming and bartering.

I shudder to think what will happen when that money is gone..and the looming credit disaster will prevent any kind of buffer.

Not that i have anything wrong with that, of course - it's only natural considering the u2u seems to be malfunctioning.

Well nope I didn't .
I just added a little reference to the fact that I've noticed one or two Papers 'tailing' the topics covered in ATS.
If it gets really bad I'll bring it up again in a slightly more 'serious tone'.

There's been a number of very useful and interesting threads that have gone a little astray with the questions "why are you preparing" "is it a fad" "are you nuts" etc.
So as I said. rather than derail those threads with a bit of back and forth sniping..
I'll send them here.. to this ..
'hopefully-by-then-buried-under-a-peat-bog-and-recycled-as-firelighters' thread...where they can discuss our 'squirrel-turd-quality-nuttyness' without bothering anyone else's thread.

Call it a 'survival forum' sin-bin for skeptiks.

I've mentioned in the OP the scenarios..(some of which appear to be happening now) that are a..
concern for the people who like to be-prepared..
and a bother for the people who would otherwise prefer to turn up the sound on 'Eastenders' or 'Jerry Springer'..and hope it drives away whatever storm is going to hit first.

You make a good point. Most types of insurance you can't cash out if nothing bad happens. Knowledge of how to do things for survival can still come in handy if never needed in life or death situations. Likewise, survival supplies can be used even if an event never causes you to need them.
In many ways survival skills and supplies are a smart investment since you can use them (cash them out) if the worst never does happen.
