Is America evil? Hmmm...let me think about that one for a moment...,...after a moments thought, my answer is: Nope. Big surprise, huh?

What America is, is a contradiction. America is many things to many people...

On one hand, we're there when you need us, asking nothing, expecting nothing, ask earthquake victims, or tsunami victims...on the other hand we're also there when you don't necessarily need us or want us.

On one hand we're a religious folk who can be intolerant, yet we open our arms and hearts to people from all over the world who want to come here, and better themselves and their lot in life.

We're both hated, and loved. By the same people in many cases...

As I said a contradiction. There's never been a country quite like us before. Easily the most powerful nation to ever stride the global scene, yet in some cases woefully ignorant of the world. Yet we must be doing something right. Hmmm...there's that contradiction again.

Who do the haters target? Us. Why? Not on a whim, that's for sure...In most cases the haters know we represent something scary. Religious toleration? Yep. Political toleration? Yep, that too. Religious and political toleration? Is it any wonder people die attempting to get here? America represents a dream to many, a dream many are willing to die to experience. The dream isn't the reality, of course, the reality is we've as many skeletons in our closet as any. You won't find many Americans who will deny that. How many nations air dirty laundry for the rest of the world to critique? Not all that many.

We are at heart, still that country of farmers and shopkeepers founded 200 plus years ago...as uncomfortable with our superpower status now, as we were when we first became a global power shortly after the results of the Spanish-American war came in. Many didn't like it then, many of us don't like it now, count me as one of those...yet the reality of the situation is there was no one else to do it.

Our stint as the global power hasn't been without it's hiccups, of course...we've made our fair share of mistakes, and will in all likelihood continue to do so. You don't like it? Then replace us with someone else. Do you think Americans like being the targets of any lunatic with a grudge? Watching our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, our parents go off to God only knows where to try and do their best to help people. Only to be called murderers, rapists, and many other names. Do you honestly think that we wouldn't come home in a heartbeat if we thought the world would be better off? If you think that, you don't know us half so well as you think. Try talking to a regular American who's watched his brother go off to war, or watched his father suffer through his own demons brought on by 3 wars worth of PTSS.

I'm finding myself getting extremely hostile, so I'll close this out by saying this. Criticize us when you know us, not many of you do apparently...

sorry, flew through replies so if covered already my fault.

When the right people get together they can get stuff done. it is not all of america that is bad. it is the people who can't let go of their own personal opinions and at times confuse their opinions with the exact truth. We seem to say that we are united all the time, atleast it is the sugared down message. but there is always tension between race and religion, and when beliefes interfere with someones own morals and with what they "know" they will not tolerate it, and try to tie it to a problem. the president expresses fear about terrotism, "this is america, he's the leader, they're "specialists", i fear terrorism too!" and that is how easily an ignorant persons mind can be steered into a bad decision. we are a bad country (not horrible) simply because we sit here arguing about everything we believe in and what we don't believe in while the true sick puppies get to work on what they want; money, respect, and power.
sorry if this is all sloppy but i needed to get my word in

They, at the end of the day, hehe poetic license, is the small number of people among us who function by deception and misstrust, who use negatives in the lives of others to make positives in their own, who are parasites on the backs of their fellow humans. At the top of society there's a whole network of them, parasiting each other but not untill they have parasited us. I could give you dozens if not hundreds of names, but it's not important, because in reality it's an atitude, which is found at all social class levels, but which is especially problematic at the top because it is invasive and you can't ignore it. "They" are people who instead of trying to play a positive part in the lives of all, try to use the lives of all to create a positive life for them and them only.

It's elitism and con artist combined, the social makeup of the ruling class. Liars and snobs dressed as kings and noblemen, as presidents and businessmen. It is the least of us ruling the rest of us.

Hope that was clear enough for you my friend.

And you know what? I think we'd all be a lot better off if the American government were a lot more "evil" or "selfish" or whatever. The USA donates MILLIONS of dollars in charity to foreigners with no expectation on getting anything back from it. So-called humanitarian aid is dumped on citizens of other nations while Americans are expected to be somewhat self-sufficient and earn their keep. Also, throughout its existence, the US has gotten involved in unnecessary wars in the interest of helping others and America almost never seizes territory or much material goods for its trouble. How many billions of dollars and millions of American lives (some involuntarily, due to a draft) were wasted in wars like World War I, the European theater of World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Iraq (TWICE).... and for what gain to Americans? And I don't even want to justify the remark about the global warning hoax with a response, but I should point out that the US is one of the few industrialized nations that is actually taking steps to be more environmentally friendly. Who do you look up to in that department, China?

Until other nations become more independent (and it's finally happening), the rest of the world needs to stop whining about what America does. Remember, we could be (and probably should be) a whole lot worse.

This is not a surprise, nor should it be. We did look like bullies without a plan. Now we have left the region in chaos years after the Evil Saddam is gone. Stirred up a beehive of enormous magnitude. Largely due to the fact that most of us slept through history class. Even our Miltary Intelligence slept through the chapters on the Middle East. As far as hand outs go... well no one turns down help when there are never strings attached. The U.S. needs to start saying no and quit being played as patsies. Drop all this politacal correctness and concern yourself with the people within your borders. The police can't control rogue gangs in our cities, why would we think we could control militant gangs abroad?

Your whole post is laughably delusional about the reality of american foreign policy. You guys spend millions to save face and hide the fact that you rake in billions in unfair and almost shotguned trade agreements, not to mention the black markets and the petrodollar. The US has never done anything abroad without either being tricked into it by false flags or out of unmitigated self interest. Just like every colonial power before you, yes, because the US practices colonial capitalism, and coca cola is your columbus.

But you're not worse than anyone else, I give you that, and the above stuation is, imo, elite driven and global, as proves things like the saudi investment in US soil (and no, I don't mean 911, the legitimate ones). We're all in this together, americans and everyone else, for better or for worse, till life us set straight.

America may be a lot of things..but today as in the past..people are free to assemble and protest. Free to worship as they choose. America provides aid and assistance around the world in disasters and will provide military muscle to ensure that despots and dictators don't sleep easy at night.
This being said does not mean America does this interest free..business try's to make sure they are able to make money one way or the other and political self interest sometimes makes strange bed fellows. America is not the MOST evil nation on the planet and her people on the whole are the most giving and forgiving people on the planet...and that's my personal view from Canada.
If EVERYWHERE on the planet had a lifestyle of middle America..this would be a pretty good world to live in.
I would rather we lived in planet dominated by America...than any other Nation except for maybe CANADA.
All of the nay sayers are free to LEAVE..the DOOR is OPEN love it or leave it

It was over the top, i apologize for any offense..

I only mean, if you look at it from an outside perspective in western europe, for instance. We have no reason to dislike the US or want it "destroyed", we've all got ties to the States, i personally have friends and family living there and i have been there several times. It was obviously a good thing that the US was a superpower for the last 50 years especially seeing as if the Russians were running the show we might all be only emerging from communism now.

But WE can see a powerful nation threatening and invading countries for corporate and 'security' reasons, misleading its own population and trying to manipulate world media. Americans seem to have developed an 'Aryan race' complex that seems to relieve them of the fact that their government is doing all this, almost every day i read or hear ordinary americans saying "i live in the best country in the world and we'll bomb anyone that doesn't agree with us...why?...'cause we're better than them" or "because they deserved it".

The worst thing about the current situation in the US from an outside perspective is the fact that in a free western society...THE original free western society, that insane megalomaniacs are able to legally manipulate their way into power, stay in power and degrade the basic rights of the population at a constitutional level while the population is unable to do anything about it and the parliament doesn't seem too bothered to do anything about it.

It does look like it must have looked to the neighbors of Germany at the start of WW2 - Hitler began by doing all the same things that George Bush is doing now. I hope ye can understand where i'm coming from because i'm not trying to be ignorant or biased.

THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT USA IS THE MOST EVIL NATION ON THE PLANET

Text
Can you say economic terrorism?

Consider the staggering fact that the United States its fellow Western powers represent 25% of the world's population yet consume 75% of the world's resources. Thanks to this gross disproportionality, three billion human beings survive on less than $2 per day. And 1.3 billion subsist on less than ONE DOLLAR. The income of the wealthiest 1% of the world's population equals that of the poorest 57%. 3 billion people lack access to sanitation while 2 billion have no electricity. Free trade agreements, multinational corporate exploitation, oppressive lending terms imposed by the World Bank, and support of corporate friendly authoritarian leaders who defy the interests of their own people ensure that these conditions persist.

Half of the planet exists on $730 per year and Western economic analysts were wringing their hands over the economic impact the recent alleged terror plot in London would have on the airline industry.

How about nuclear terrorism?

The same oligarchs, corporate elite, dictators, and plutocrats who hoard the Earth's bounty (to the extreme detriment of billions of human beings) also have their fingers poised to activate the ultimate weapons of mass destruction. Possessing enough nuclear firepower to destroy the world thousands of times over the "benevolent" United States is the only nation to have deployed nuclear weapons against human beings. Nearly 200,000 Japanese died as a result of US nuclear terror. (And I personally almost vomited when I recently visited the Truman Library and saw the marble placard thanking Harry Truman for making the decision to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.) What more profound terror could an individual or group have at their disposal than the power to destroy the world multiple times?

WELL, PEOPLE ARE tired of corporate looting and war crimes done by imperialist USA , thus the hate for the inaction of american citizens , who are frivolously hedonistic .............

And what about the terrorism inherent in imperial expansion?

Dating back to its founding and contradicting to its self-professed devotion to truth, justice, democracy, and so on, the United States has followed the examples of the Western European colonial powers from which it sprang. Eradicating 90% of the Native American population to "acquire" their land; enslaving the Black race; annexing Hawaii; taking half of Mexico by force; slaughtering 600,000 "heathen" Filipinos; subjugating Cuba; killing three million Vietnamese; extinguishing the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians in various Latin American nations; enabling Israel's imperial conquest of Palestine; and annihilating millions of Iraqis via the Gulf War, UN sanctions throughout the 90's, and the current illegal occupation have made the United States the empire it is today.

Click the link below to see examples of profound human suffering stemming from United States sponsored terrorism:

www.youtube.com...

In contrasting the moral calculus of the Western ruling elite (led by the United States) with that of the "terrorists", it is critical to remember two other crucial points:

1. Groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah have successfully provided life-sustaining social services to Palestinians and Lebanese citizens who were wallowing in the misery of abject poverty caused by Israel and the United States. In the United States, the Bush Regime has significantly diminished social services in favor of increased militarization. To add a bit of perspective, the wealthiest country in the world has the largest wealth gap amongst industrialized nations, 13% of its population lives in poverty, and 3 million of its people are homeless. (And that is with some of the federal safety net still intact).
2. Militants waging attacks on Western civilians emerged as reactionary forces in the face of Western oppression and imperialism. United States and Western military aggression existed long before the so-called "terrorists" came to be.

Consider an excerpt from an ABC Television interview with University of Chicago Professor Robert Pape, who has engaged in in-depth studies of 462 separate suicide bombings occurring around the world. Pape stated:

There's a faulty premise in the current strategy on the war on terrorism. That faulty premise is that suicide terrorism and al- Qaida suicide terrorism in particular is mainly driven by an evil ideology Islamic fundamentalism independent of other circumstances.

However, the facts are that since 1980, suicide terrorist attacks from around the world over half have been secular. What over 95% of suicide attacks around the world [are about] is not religion, but a specific strategic purpose - to compel modern democracies to withdraw military forces from the territory that the terrorists view as their homeland or prize greatly and this is, in fact, a centrepiece of al-Qaida's strategic logic, which is to compel the United States and western countries to abandon military commitments on the Arabian peninsula.

Yes America is the most evil power on the planet, but it isn't because of the American people, or necessarily because of their leaders, its because they are the most powerful, & power attracts money and influence, & that might is used to make the rich & powerful even more rich & powerful.

Once that is finished they'll move on to the next leading light & corrupt that too, like when England was the superpower, or when France, or when Spain ruled the World, & maybe China next etc, etc for ever.

The citizens of all of these countries are the same, proud to be part of "the greatest show on Earth" in its time, but the common man is the same as the rest - overworked, overtaxed, & making money for those who pull the strings.

It doesn't matter who is the strongest, those with power & money will corrupt, & the people of whichever land it is will have no say in it, they'll just do as they're told & be thankful that they're not the other guy, but although they don't realise it at the time they're just slaves to the rhythm like everyone else.

All in my humble downtrodden English opinion without wishing to offend anyone.

I new before I even clicked on this thread it would be a thread started by the biggest American hater of ATS....Manson......no surprise. If any of you care to check out any of his other posts on anything that deals with America you will see his utter disdain for anything American or the American people. That being said I would say "no" America is not the most evil country in the world.Perhaps run by evil corporate fascist..."yes".But Manson your hatred for the American citizen is just plain wrong. If you want to continue blaming the citizens of this country then look into your own backyard of India for a little taste of evil itself.
Start with Kashmir.

Funny he starts this thread knowing full well it is going to stir the pot into a boil and yet he has not responded once since his opening post.TROLL.....TROLL....
....TROLL......TROLL!
