Well, it seems those poor people in Iowa are fighting a losing battle with failing levees, and increasingly higher water levels. But someone is going to make a buck on their misfortune. Yes, those corn middle-men, and market speculators are going to make big profits off the reduced corn crop. Good old - Supply and Demand Economics. So, stand by for higher cornmeal prices, higher food prices in general - since just about everything made these days, contains high frutose corn syrup. So, beat them to the punch, buy a big bag of cornmeal and a big bag of sugar - This week ! Both will be shooting up in price, in a matter of days. The sugar will go up, since high frutose corn syrup will be higher & harder to get. Before high frutose corn syrup, sugar was king. For a short while it may make a comeback. The ways to make a buck in this country never cease. Misery & Misfortune (equals) More Money for Some.... Sad but True.... So, lets all pray for those poor farmers.

It sucks, but it's really no ones fault. It's not like the farmers burned their corn, or like in the 1930's where they dumped out milk to try to inflate the price. This comes under "Act of God" and everyone will get burned one way or another.

There is an excellent and very detailed thread about the phenomenon you are referring to:

The Shock Doctrine: Disaster Capitalism

Parasites and scavengers will feed on anything.
