Sweden approves wiretapping law

Sweden's parliament has approved controversial new laws allowing authorities to spy on cross-border e-mail and telephone traffic.

"By introducing these new measures, the Swedish government is following the examples set by governments ranging from China and Saudi Arabia to the US government's highly criticised eavesdropping programme," said Peter Fleischer, of Google.

Now that a European country has implemented these laws how long before the rest of us have them rammed down our throats? It seems just about every country now is going through a phase of reducing the citizens rights whilst giving more and more powers the the ruling elite, it seems George Orwell was right all along big brother really is watching.
