EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Air Force Research Laboratory researchers conducted successful flight test of Voyeur, a proof-of-concept rotary wing unmanned air vehicle designed for bomb damage assessment (BDA) missions.

Lite Machines Corporation developed the coaxial counterrotating helicopter under a Small Business Innovation Research contract.

The UAV's compact size and nominal weight, coupled with its unprecedented flight capabilities, represent unparalleled qualifications for the selected mission.

Here are the people who make it and the specs.

Now thats what I call a smart idea ! reminds me alot of the old 1960s efforts to make a vertical take off fighter craft - but, what a simple and effective design to send into areas that may be more hostile than other equipment can handle.

As for its size, unless you have sophisticated munitions available this looks like it would be a bugger to hit!

With its ability to be hand or tube launch, sophisticated sensor payload, near silent operation, this looks to be an ideal sensor system for troops out on the streets with vehicle back up.

Want a peek around the streets in a FIBUA / MOUT situation ? easy - pop a tube, lob it up and your away... Awesome.
