have you ever tried to hold a camera still when you're zoomed in? It's very hard,as the area of the sky you've got to keep still has just shrunk.

Hi this is my video. It has taken a few days for me get my head round what I have seen.I do not want my id known for fear of my name being dragged through the mud and being labled a nutcase who filmed balloons and thought it might be a ufo. I am known where I live and it is a small town between Faversham and Margate. There is a big clue in one of the vids to where i am .I first noticed this object out of the corner of my eye,(it looked like a white staionary object that I could tell was not a plane kite or helicopter. That is why I wanted to investigate further)when I was in my car parked in the town wich is about a mile away from where I recorded the footage. This was about 11.45am 15/06/08.I first had to do a quick business related errand(that took 7 mins) then drove to the place where I thought it was (not really expecting to see anything because of the time already elapsed).I parked my car looked up and could see straight away that there was something very bright high in the sky( iwould say approx 200/300 ft up).I always carry a pair of bins with me in my car as I am a windsurfer since 91 and love to check out kitesurfers windsurfers boats etc. I also since a short while ago carry in my car a aiptec pocket digital camcorder. It also takes 11mpix stills.I grabbed this also.At first I new because of my windsurfing background that the wind was approx force 3 and no balloon can stay there that long in that wind. When i looked at it through bresser binoculars it looked a little like a buch of wedding balloons. But only for a second it soon became clear that this was no looked solid and seemed to comprise of bright gold, whitegold, copper, spheres that seemed to change postion weirdly. This thing started to freak me out a little.I then started to place my camcorder up to the eye piece to record as best i could.(very diffilcult as i had to look through one eyepiece to aim and was very concerned that I was not recording it .Thats why I tried just using the camera on its own(the screen is so small i could not see the object on it).In between filming sements I kept on looking through my bins.Awesome and a little scary.People were walking past no one else seemed to be watching it.A bloke with a white small works van parked behind me I went over to him and asked him what he thought this thing in the sly was .He used my bins to have a look. For at least a couple of mins.By this time it had started to move overhead and south over the town.He looked a bit stunned and said he saw red ball as well as gold.I then took back the bins and had a final look and a short film .You can hear me speak to the guy on this part also it gives my id away so I have tacken it down from yt.But I still have it in my camera and on my computor.I then had to leave to get back to work. But i left early to download to yt.I have today just bought a new sony handy cam with a 40x optical zoom plus a tripod.(i neede a better cam anyway)So if I am lucky again I hope to get better footage. I will try to answer any questions as best I can. Thanks Tarifa 37

Looks like a kite! A stiff wind would do the trick.... get the kite nice and high. I have flown large kites using fishing line. You can't even see the fishing line 100 feet away.

Just got back from England
First visit there & it's hella of a nice place! Go Britannia!

I went on a steel mill visit to a place called Sheerness on the 17th. Not sure where is that relative to London. Anyway, on my way back from Sheerness, while in the tour bus, saw something similar zooming around in the sky. To be fair, can't judge whether it's really a ufo or not as it was just going on a straight line, so it's probably just a plane. Saw lots of contrails around the countryside as well. (don't get that much in Singapore

Anyway lots of fun! A lot of things happened for me while I was in London! (Saw 1000 naked cyclists, Charles & Camilla (with no escort!
), and ufos (well, probably planes heh)!

Hope you guys have more luck spotting them

Looks like a solar balloon. Not sure why it is not moving with the wind but it is hard to tell what direction the wind is blowing.. it could be tethered.

This was not tethered it flew off after 45 mins at about 25mph untill out of sight. This was very real and not a balloon.tarifa37.The wind was comming from the east with a touch of north to it.It was about force3 there were white caps on the sea and kitesurfers out just 2 miles up the coast. They need at least a force 3 wind.No balloon can stay in one place and go against the wind for 45mins before deciding to leave at 25mph.I am still trying to work out how high it was .i thought it was 2 to 300 ft up but i now think it was higher maybe 500ft.The sky was crystal clear so without many clouds hard to be certain on hight.I have emailed Nick Pope and said he can borrow the sd card from my cam. Also that i would give him all the details of the event including mine,if he keeps them private. It just remains to be seen if he is interested or not. The wind was as you stated Manston Force three, more than enough to blow a balloon away in 5 mins let alone 45mins. Cheers tarifa37

I windsurf and am learning kitesurfing so I know what a bloody kite looks like ,I own a 12.5 flexifoil storm. What I was refering to was that you need at least a force 3 to go kitesurfing. That means any balloon would be blown away in a couple of mins or so.Not 45 mins that I watched this thing for.

It could, potentially be a balloon, but as he says in the video (and you can hear it), there's quite a breeze. I wouldn't expect a balloon to linger so in such a breeze.

Not much of a breeze - and certaibly nothing to deter balloons. This is the data for stations across SE England at 12.00BST on 16th June:

Langdon Bay (117 m) E 4
Gravesend Broadness (3 m) E 3
St Catherine's Pt (24 m) E 3
Solent MRSC (13 m) S 3
Manston (50 m) E 3
Thorney Island (3 m) SE 3
London City AP (5 m) E 2
Farnborough (64 m) N 2
Southamptom Airport (9 m) SE 2
Herstmonceux (52 m) S 2
Brize Norton (81 m) SE 2
High Wycombe (205 m) N 2
Larkhill (133 m) NE 2
Benson (57 m) N 2
Stansted Airport (106 m) NE 2
Shoreham Airport (2 m) SE 2
London-Gatwick (62 m) E 2
London-Heathrow AP (25 m) NE 2
Middle Wallop (91 m) E 2
Luton AP (160 m) NE 2
Odiham (118 m) NE 2
Bedford (84 m) E 1

(numbers refer to beaufort scale. Data from )

Apart from Langdon, all stations reporting a gentle breeze or less.

The place I saw the object was about 6 miles west of Manston and as proved by your scale it was a force 3. I don't think that a balloon would stay stationary for 45 mins in that wind.
