Ok so i'm not from the USA however that shouldn't mean i can't ask this question, especially as i've actually read your constitution, something many americans still havn't done.

What is Obama was a muslim? This seems to be a major issue with you americans but i have to ask, does it truly matter? Your country was founded on the right to free speech, the right to freedom of belief, the right to freedom that any man or woman can believe what they want and become president. So if you don't want Obama in simply because he's a muslim then doesn't that just show a country that has hatred of other faiths? Doesn't it show that the constitution is nothing to most of you unless it supports the rights of christians and a christian god?

A persons colour, crede or religious beliefs should not matter as to whether they are suitable to run your country, you're a republic, based onfreedom of thought and action within the confines of the law. If you really vote against Obama, simply because he's a muslim. Then you're a traitor to your own countries laws. A traitor to the men and women (yes btw there were women involved) who founded it. You have the right to disagree with his religion of course, that's freedom of belief, but you shouldn't vote someone out depending on it.

Vote for him, or not on his policies, nothing else. That is the spirit with which your country was founded.

That's my view on it, you can denounce my opinion if you want on the basis i'm from England, but that shouldn't matter when it comes to this issue i don't think.

If Obama is a Muslim then he should go through the media grinder just like Mitt Romney did with his Mormonism.

The problem is not whether or not Obama is a Muslim or not, its all about the perceptions. Many people in America won't vote for Obama if he was a Muslim just like there are many people who wouldn't vote for a Christian in Egypt. IF Obama loses those votes, he loses the election.

Thats why Obama supporters are so quick to try to end the "Obama is a Muslim" discussion. They want to nip any perception that Obama is outside mainstream American religious beliefs at the buds. I wonder why Obama supporters are so rabid in trying to stem of Muslim rumors anyways, do they have a problem with Islam?

Personally I don't care if Obama is a Muslim or not, there are other aspects of him that are really worth worrying over. The issue is worth discussing however because it is always good to dig up the past on a person running for the highest office.

I do care if Obama is covering up his faith because of politics. He already left his church of 20 years because of politics, I wonder what else he sells out for his desire for power.

I am not saying he is a muslim i was asking so what if he was. Who cares? It doesn't matter, not all muslims are out to destroy America you know.

My whole point is that the idea of whether or not he's a muslim in a country proclaiming it's the bastion of freedom, should not effect if he is voted for or not.

Obama being a Muslim might not matter to you, but it does matter to some people: The same people Obama needs votes from to get elected.

So who cares if Obama is a Muslim? Well, obviously he does, because he's going to need as many votes as he can get to win.

Yep it does work the other way around, i don't like any kind of bigotry. If someone black voted for Obama simply becuase he's black, then they're a bigot and no better than someone who doesn't vote for him simply because he's muslim. Vote on policies and track record, nothing more.

Please note, i'm not saying he is a muslim i started this thread on a hypothetical idea of him being one.

Just because someone asks questions about Obama doesn't mean they are McCain followers. It is quite possible that there are people that feel that Obama and McCain are part of the same big government nanny-state machine that seeks total control (left-wing philosophy again) of the population.

Isn't it quite possible that Obama does not want to reveal his religious history because of perspective that the average American has towards Muslims? Notice I did not say that this is the correct perspective but it cannot be denied that it exists.

In fact how can anyone even know what Obama's real beliefs are? He joins a church for 20 years than leaves because it is detrimental to his political aspirations. How would one know that he didn't join that church in the first place for his local political aspirations? How would one know if he didn't secretly keep his Muslim beliefs from his younger years but didn't want to show it because it wouldn't win him any elections. Its not a stretch to believe this knowing how he distanced himself from Rev Wright when things got sticky.

Obama just says things that people want to hear.

Obama also has that internet attack machine that seeks to counter the "lies" and "rumors" that circulate the internet that might be disruptive to his presidential chances.

However this is a hypothetical thread, designed to ask the question of whether a religion should stop someone being elected. It is not to debate the personal life of a single politician. I used Obama as an example because there is so much speculation abot his religious views.

My point again stands thusly, a religion should not be your major factor in voting. Actually it shoudln't be any factor in your voting choice.
