Hamas officials in Egypt to discuss possible truce with Israel

www.iht.com

CAIRO, Egypt: Top Hamas leaders opened discussions Sunday with Egypt's chief of intelligence to work out a truce between the militant group and Israel, officials said.

On Thursday, Israeli negotiator Amos Gilad was in Egypt to convey his country's position on the latest Egyptian proposal in talks that have dragged on for months.

The officials said Moussa Abu Marzouk and Mohammed Naser were discussing with Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman these proposals.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to reporters.

Israel wants Hamas and Egypt to stop the smuggling of weapons into Gaza and to promise progress in the talks to release Cpl. Gilad Schalit, an Israeli soldier snatched by Palestinian militants two years ago.

Hamas, for its part, is demanding Israel lift a blockade of Gaza that has imprisoned most of the territory's 1.4 million residents and caused widespread shortages of fuel, electricity and commercial goods.

Could it be that both sides have come to their senses?

NAH... probably not. Just pausing to reload.

You are closer to the truth than you realize.

The last truce was used by Hamas to lick their wounds and get men/arms and bombs.

The only reason they want to talk is they HAVE been hurt badly-probably much more so than they will admit.

This is the time to finish them off, not allow them to rearm.

I am sure I will get flamed for daring to speak the logical truth.

It would be nice to think they really want permanent peace, but come one now, seriously???

Has/will Hamas change they text to remove the murdering of every man/woman and child in Israel-no??, big surprise-NOT!!!!!!!!!

If not, they are the declared enemy and only deserve to be treated as such until they decide to be civilized and end their murdering ways.

this is good
hopefully Israel will agree to stop building more Homes in occupied territory and build it winin the legal lines of 1947.

and bombing the bleep out out of crowded places.

hopefully Israel will stop their group punishment of all palestinains
and be humane.
same goes with hamas.

either way Israel needs to work out a truce with Hamas as a country living in fear isnt a safe country,

No one is going to finish anyone off that should be obvious by now as it should also be obvious that continued violence is not going to solve anything.

I would like to think both sides are finally coming to their senses butI seriously doubt it...

... they will fina a reason to resume the bleeding.
