I don't know about ya'll, but I just think this is some cool beans. First light from a dying star, they are actually seeing the light before the first shockwave, before this giant star exlpoded. Wonder how long it will take to see the supernova this red giant created?

snippet:
"Astronomers have been dreaming about seeing the first light from the violent death of a star for over 30 years," said lead researcher Kevin Schawinksi of the University of Oxford. "Our observations open up an entirely new avenue for studying the final stages in the lives of massive stars and the physics of supernovae."

That is awesome.

Massive UV blast signals the end hey ? Thanks for posting that as I had no idea what so ever that this was the harbinger of doom for a star.

What a tan the people around it would of got in their final minutes.

Your very welcome, I take great interest in space and space exploration, I think discoveries like this one are awesome, and science it getting better and better at making these kinds of discoveries, first time and one of a kind.
