Banking, budget committee chairmen tied to special mortgage deals

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd reportedly received two mortgages under a special Countrywide Financial Corp. program that gave preferential interest rates to "friends" of the company's chairman.

A spokesman for Dodd, D-Conn., said Friday that the senator did not seek any special treatment.

How can he say he didn't seek any special treatment? He surely did not deny or disprove of this action.

I just posted this in the breaking political news forum. Their is a more indepth story on portfolio.com that seems to be the source for this AP article. Here is the link to that story. The fact that Sen. Dodd accepted special treatment from an industry he has oversight over is very unethical. Just because you didn't go looking for a bribe (not sure I believe that anyway), doesn't absolve you of responsibillity. As a matter of fact bribes are almost always unsolicited.
