Genetic material from outer space found in a meteorite in Australia may well have played a key role in the origin of life on Earth, according to a study to be published Sunday.

European and US scientists have proved for the first time that two bits of genetic coding, called nucleobases, contained in the meteor fragment, are truly extraterrestrial.

I'm not sure what I'm missing here, but did they just confirm that extraterrestrial genetic information has been found?
Maybe someone with more knowledge in this field can put this into more simple terms, because this seems like it should be front page news to me.

I'll agree, it's nice to have a reminder now and again that although it's a small world, it's a big universe.

Unfortunately the report only really mentions the Imperial College and this Martins fellow, I'm hoping more information about the origins of this study would be an obvious addition.

I guess i'll have to wait until Sunday!
