The Burmese Government's criminally neglectful response to last month's cyclone, and the world's response to that response, illustrate three grim
realities today: totalitarian governments are alive and well; their neighbours are reluctant to pressure them to change; and the notion of national
sovereignty as sacred is gaining ground, helped in no small part by the disastrous results of the American invasion of Iraq.
Indeed, many of the world's necessary interventions in the decade before the invasion - in places like Haiti and the Balkans - would seem impossible
in today's climate.
I have to say that Albright is spot on in this case . The Iraq misadventure has brought out peoples tendency's to react in the extreme . This can be
seen in the way some people support the Iranian regime because they don't agree with US policy . The free world mustn't let the bad policy
decisions of a few deter any action being taken in the likes of Sudan to prevent genocide.
One vital thing of importance is to see a mission thou to the end. Somalia is the perfect example of what happens when the US and other nations quiet
to soon . Somalia is a failed state and a future terrorist haven if it isnt one already .
