***Analysis of active/ non active members***

Hi all!!

What follows is an attempt to define the actual number of "active" ATS SETI@home users. As a neccessity, this is a snapshot of the situation yesterday, so apologies for omitting any recent peoples WU contributions etc.

It is *NOT* intended as a "name and shame" list of people, but I think it will be useful to actually state the situation as regards the team's position.

Please forgive any formatting errors - the original version is in a spreadsheet which I set up yesterday - I've removed unnecessary information for the sake of clarity/ readabilty.

Well done Genya that obviousley took a lot of time and effort. It will be very handy to use as a starting point to keep track of movement on the board.

Good Grief! You have been busy, Genya! Sifting through all those stats seems like a lot of work. I can hardly wait to read your observations and see what you can pull out of the raw data. Charts and graphs? Powerpoint presentation?

I certainly don't see the results as embarassing to members who have low/zero results. Perhaps they are having problems with the program and will be encouraged to post questions so we can help out.

Thank you - it *did* take a lot of time - I actually had this ready to go this morning and the server went down, so I've had to re submit it!!

Apologies for the formatting - all the spaces I included (I thought) have been lost... Technology, eh?!!!

Well, my thoughts run like this:

We've gained people (which is great!) but lost *many*: we only have 80 active members from 268 in total.

55 members "left" during January and February 2004, which makes me think "Did they leave because the announced 'Points for WU's' hasn't happened yet?? It would be nice if any "ex-member" could comment on this please??

Obviously, SETI@home *isn't* for everybody: I think some people are extremely surprised at how long it takes to crunch a WU and probably get frustrated with it and don't bother afterwards. Their decision and fully supported by yours truly. Howver, it does seem a shame (to me) that 55 people appear to have stopped using the programme - even 1 WU a day from each would be another 55 for the team after all!!

Well, of course, PowerPoint presentaions are de rigeur here in the day job - but putting them onto ATS seems a bit heavy going!!

Perhaps DJDB could do a Flash presentation??

I'm "building" an audit trail that I can use in DISC or Mods conferences to try to show that "Points for WU's" could be an incentive - especially to retain members, not "simply" to attract new ones (though that would be fantastic of course!). So, I hope the time and effort will "pay off" Spectre - you can't easily argue against quantative data can you?

It's a great team too!! I think you'll find we're a friendly bunch and try to help each other as best we can. Whilst not "elite" in any exclusive sense of the word, we *do* share a common interest in running SETI@home, which gives a great feeling of "belonging" to a vibrant community.
